Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park — Attraction in San Diego

The park itself is wonderful, with brand new state-of-the-art equipment. The other patrons at the park and children there were also very friendly and welcoming. The issue I have is due to the proximity of The JCC, they frequently have events that restrict access to the park. Particularly on the weekends. This was the case two of the three times I visited the park. The first time I got there before the event started, I was there maybe 2 hours, and the security guard was originally very helpful and friendly. However when the event started, they continued to harass me when I went back to my vehicle so I could change my daughter's diaper. They said there was an event going on and that I couldn't go back and forth from my vehicle, because access was reserved for the participants of the event. They said this even though there was no written notice or anything to the effect, after being harassed 3 times I left. I don't understand why they felt the need to harass me, when I was just there enjoying the park with my children who are 6 and 1.

The second time I got there the event was already going on and there was a sign saying the park was closed, even though there were lots of people and kids playing. When I inquired if we could go in, I was told it was reserved for a private event. It was a real disappointment because I drove a long way to get there.

I guess this is not really a public park, and they can and will restrict access at their discretion, just be aware before you...

The playground is five stars but on multiple occasions my one year old has been bullied with me standing there. I understand that kids need guidance and need to learn but when I have to move four times because a four year old is chasing my child, saying mean things, and jumping at her and swinging his arms and no parent comes over there is a problem. Roughly a week before a three year old girl lunged at my daughter and shoved her to the ground twice. Thankfully her guardian was very kind and intervened. We play at various playgrounds and almost never encounter anything but fun kid behavior. I don't know why this particular playground is having issues but parents need to supervise their kids....

Playground: Brand new playground with lots to do for older and younger kids. This playground has pretty much everything and is extremely well done: shaded sand pit, musical instruments, baby area, traditional play structure, obstacle course, swings, etc. The flooring is rubber and there was a good amount of shade. There are a few benches to sit on with some in the shade. Bathrooms: Very clean next to the playground. Changing table and water fountains as well. Parking: Street parking only and not enough. Location: Medium busy street with a baseball field next to it. Safety: No unhoused, no trash, busy, fenced in playground. Some dogs on leashes walking in...
