I love this Mexican restaurant. While the parking lot it's located in can be crowded and tight, it's worth the parking hassles. We've been here so many times I've lost count. The first time I came here I thought it must be one of those hole-in-the-wall places that totally surprises. It was better than that! While the interior is your very standard and bare restaurant, the walls are decorated with a mixture of Mexican art and local sports jerseys. The menu is both behind the register & on one wall when you walk in. It's quickly apparent that the menu has expanded greatly since the wall menus were printed because next to the menu are tons of additional hand written menu items. It looks kinda weird at first but once you order and get your food, you quickly realize the menu in the places doesn't matter because the food stands up for itself.
We've order a little bit of everything here and we have yet to get something bad. I'm stuck on their potato tacos and my fiancé loves their lengua plate. We also like their tacos and their burritos. Seriously, if you're craving Mexican it's the place to have your craving satisfied!
Service is always good, regardless of how long the line is. The line moves quickly and the folks behind the counter are amazing at multi-tasking, and getting food...
Read moreSo I have been coming here for over a decade on and off. I usually get a burrito, Carne asada fries, ,or rolled tacos. I wanted to try something new here and was craving soup. My problem over all is trying something new and typically being disappointed. So, I asked Maria her opinion on soups, she recommended parole or menudo. I decided on red pazole. First they brought out crispy tostadas, which I wasn't accustomed to. I asked another lady that brought me the largely chopped onions and iceberg lettuce nicely if I could get some soft cooked corn tortillas, She asked me how many, and I said, "four please." She came back and said that will be $1.00. I said," how many come with the pazole?" Finally, my soup more like stew arrived. Had some of it but the meat was overcooked, and the whole thing was mushy Then I went up to ask Maria for some Togo items, she gives me as little as she can. I had to ultimately as for each item. Soup container, salsa, and even a bag. The only thing pleasant about my experience here was the helped who was sweet. I later found out she's new and training. You all can do much better, especially Maria you are the face and first person people interact with. So rating the soup it was a...

This place is AMAZING. It was my first time in San Diego, and I did the classic Google search of "best Mexican food San Diego." This restaurant showed up, and after reading the existing reviews, I had to give it a try. I ordered their Taco Tuesday special and California Burrito. Amazing prices considering it's 2024 California. (Can be seen in the photos)
This place does not disappoint. The flavor here is unique and authentic. It's interesting how you can go to any Mexican restaurant in San Diego, and each has its own distinct flavor.
JV's Mexican Food is built different. The food here is the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. The people here bring Mexico to the States. Burritos the size of your hand, prices you can't beat for the portions and quality of food you're getting.
This place is so amazing, you can't miss it if you're in San Diego. It's a must-try for anyone who loves Mexican food. This has quickly become my go-to spot whenever I'm in the area. Whether you're a local or just visiting, JV's Mexican Food is a culinary experience you won't...
