California Burrito Rating (26) On the hunt for the best California Burrito. This is already spot number twenty-six on my list. Today’s stop: Karina’s Ceviches & More. The Burrito: Looks like they wrapped the burrito a little sloppy because all the good stuff slid down to the bottom. So at first you’re just eating tortilla, potatoes, and some basic-tasting meat. Halfway through you finally get that creamy sauce mixed with avocado, and that combo is legit tasty. Overall it eats like a regular burrito, but since most of the ingredients dropped to the bottom, the balance is off. Price is over sixteen bucks, which is higher than most places around town. Flavor and value don’t really match up. Score: 5 out of 10. Service: Friendly chat, quick and simple service. Score: 5 out of 10. Atmosphere: Not really much of a vibe here, no special Mexican touch or anything like that. Next to the order counter there’s this wide staircase where you can sit and look out at cars, a car wash, and some trees. Kinda dirty overall, but the outdoor tables with umbrellas are still a nice spot to chill. Score: 7 out of 10.

What an awesome find! We stopped here after leaving the San Diego airport (it's super conveniently located with several other restaurants near where you leave the rental car center; it's just tough to find street parking). I had the ahi poke tostada and loved it so much I got a second (I misread the menu and thought that getting a ceviche in tostada form was $4 extra, but it was actually just $4 because it's a smaller volume of ceviche to fit on a single tostada). The fish had a great texture and flavor, and the dish had a great combination of sweet and savory flavors that made me crave a poke bowl for the next week and a half. And I was expecting the tostada itself to be more of a vehicle for the dish's flavors, but it was surprisingly flavorful on its own and sturdy enough to hold the ceviche and not break, but also perfectly crumbly upon eating it.

I like the food, the prices are a little high but the food is always good. I have taken several people food from here and every one enjoys their food. It has a small sitting area outside. If outside sitting is full, you can sit at Safron, the neighboring restaurant, it owned by the same company. Only thing I don’t like is the girls that attend me at the window. They seem nice but several of them seem confused. Once I got my change wrong, I counted it after two counts they gave me the right change. They were apologetic about it. Yesterday, I was given my food and my fork fell to the ground, the girl who gave me the food said “oh no” but never offered a new fork. She closed the window and walked away. I politely flagged her down and asked her for a new one. Was she confused that I needed a new fork. 🤔

First, I have to say that ceviche is one of my favorite foods. I’ve had many variations, and have eaten it in various countries. Second, if you are looking for traditional Peruvian ceviche, look elsewhere. Moving on.

I ordered the mixto plate. It is large portion for one person, comes with avocado and tostadas. Overall I was disappointed. The main reason is that that tomato sauce mixed in was way too sweet, as in borderline ketchup. I would assume it’s actually cocktail sauce...why was this added to the ceviche? If I wanted that much sweetness I would have ordered the cocktail 😔. The seafood was cut into very small pieces. As a result the ceviche ended up being a cross between a seafood salad and a seafood cocktail.

I also ordered the camarón (shrimp) enchilado taco. This was pretty good and spicy. Only criticism is to lighten up on the cream sauce. You’re starting to overwhelm the taste of the shrimp.

It’s hard for me to comment on the freshness of the seafood in the ceviche because of the cocktail sauce, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s decently fresh. The shrimps in the tacos were a generous size. 👌🏽

The service was excellent and quick. The staff was friendly. The outdoor seating is nice and shaded. Note: there were a couple of homeless guys that walked by digging through the trash, so I’d recommend sitting above the street level.

I love ceviche and really hope some of the suggestions I mentioned are taken. If they were, I’d come back and...

Been coming here for the past two years. Really great tacos. Recently they raised the prices which isn't too big of a deal even though they were already expensive, the tacos are so good it was worth it. But today (2/25/24 3:30 PM. Whoever was working the register is either rude or just dumb. He took my order and before the transaction was done he walked away. I waited at the window for my horchata and chips and salsa like always. He didn't come back so I just took my number and sat at the patio thinking he'll bring it out with my food. He brings out our food and I ask him for my horchata. He says sure and goes back in, helps the two customers waiting at the register (takes another 2 minutes), comes back out with another order and my horchata in hand and walks right past me to deliver the other customers food. Mind you I've already started eating as we were outside and I'd rather eat without my drink than eat cold food. At that time my friend got up and went to the window for napkins. This guy walks right past me AGAIN (WITH MY HORCHATA IN HAND!) to go help my friend. I was already halfway done eating by the time I GOT UP and went to the window to get my drink. Has common sense and...
