Ma-DaSao — Restaurant in San Diego

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. While the food is expensive, I wouldn’t say the quality justifies the high prices. What made things worse is that they didn’t inform us they were out of certain ingredients for our dish until we asked. Instead of letting us know in advance, they substituted vegetables without telling us, which I found very unprofessional.

They automatically added a 20% tip to the bill, but then also tacked on an additional 4% fee for using a Visa credit card. I’ve never had to pay such a fee at any other restaurant, and it felt like an extra hidden charge.

Chinese hot pot at 5440 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Not Szechuan, another region- Yunnan maybe? You pick out as many skewers of whatever meats or veggies you like (dozens of choices) and they cook them and bring them to you in a big bowl of spicy broth with noodles. Went to lunch with 7 other co-workers for lunch. We made a reservation for 11:45AM. We had to stand around for 10 mins and wait for them to prepare the table. Not sure why they didn’t prepare beforehand.

The 4 star is for the food. I ordered a noodle soup because it was really cold this week in San Diego. The soup was tasty without msg. The texture of the noodles was al dente.
