The reason for my one star review has nothing to do with the taste of the food. Let me begin by stating that my eggs Benedict were delicious. Incredibly great tasting and the presentation was excellent. I am one star because when we showed up to the restaurant we talked about the history and how this place is great. It even says on the menu how long they have been around. We look at the menu and soups were highly recommended but I saw the eggs Benedict and I said that is it for me. My wife had a sandwich. To start we gave our orders to our server and we all got our food. My wife got a fruit salad with the meal and to start there was a hair in it. You can see it in the posted picture. I was thinking incredible but I guess it happens. We advised our server and she apologized and brought out a new one. We then shifted attention to my wife's sandwich. I took a picture and she then checked her sandwich and there was no bacon or avocado on it which it should have had as that is what the sandwich was called. Our server brought the missing elements to the sandwich and we were ready to start eating. I ate my first eggs and they were great. There was a second set and my wife wanted to try. I moved my plate so she can try and when I did that I uncovered another long hair from under the plate. I was beside myself now. The food is great but now I am doubting the sanitary conditions of the restaurant. I am sure that others feel as I do being that COVID is already enough to deal with now I have to deal with germs on my food I do not want. I showed this to the server and she was apologetic and asked if I wanted them remade. I said no. What is the point honestly. I just said I will finish my meal and move on. It is not her fault but I did not want to make a scene. I truly wanted to just get up and leave but I was with loved ones I have not seen in a while. Our server asked if we wanted a desert for the issues and I accepted only to give it to my mother in law since that was likely not cooked by whoever handled my food. I liked the food but this experience with the cleanliness was just not acceptable. I thank Jenna for being apologetic and I hope she let management know about...
Read moreAs a NY Jewish girl, I can promise you that Milton's is an overrated, over priced, poor service example of what a delicatessen should be. I have lived in SD for 12 years and tried Milton's a few times, each time leaving with such disappointment in the quality of the food, the size of the plates/sandwiches, and the plating.
Yesterday we tried again: We waited 10 minutes for 4 glasses of water. Waiter served 1 dill pickle, quartered for four of us with a decent challah. (In NY you would get a big endless bowl of pickles!) I ordered the combo: bowl of mushroom barley soup (eh) and half a hot brisket sandwich (eh). "Overstuffed" deli sandwich was not overstuffed by any means, served with no lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles on the plate, only small coleslaw making the plate look empty and cheap for $16.00. My mom and boyfriend planned to split a corned beef/pastrami "overstuffed" sandwich for $18.50. Barely stuffed (in NY, two could easily share.) Then, they charged us $2.50 to have half corned beef & half pastrami- Again a bare plate; no lettuce, tomato, pickle, Nada. My son order a bowl of Matzoh ball soup (before adults ordered to come out fast) which the waiter forgot even when he served us our meals. We asked for their "special" homemade potato chips, but they charged us for a side. When we initially ordered, I ordered a knish to go. The waiter simply forgot it, didn't put it on the bill so I let it go with the rest of the "mishagas." We (even my 10 year old son) all felt the food was tasteless, cheaply cut, very poor service, and extremely disappointing, AND very expensive for the disappointment.
PS: the reviews below with the "professional pictures" seems a bit contrived. What average person takes pictures of the food when I know the food doesn't come out looking like...
Read moreI have never experienced such rude service. I’ve been to Milton’s so many times over the past 13 years and this was a first for me. Zora was our server, and the vibe was off from the moment we sat down. Ordered two camomile teas and 5 waters, we got three waters and the tea. No big deal we just asked for two waters. We ordered two orders of potato pancakes with extra apple sauce, and first received two baskets of sweet potato fries. Then our correct order came out about 5 minutes later, immediately followed by our food. While I understand mistakes happen it felt intentional seeing as there were only two other tables in the whole restaurant. I had asked for extra cranberry sauce and it didn’t come with my food, when she came back I gently reminded her and asked for the cranberry sauce. She brought me 6 containers of cherry pie filling (shown next to the cranberry sauce in attached photo). When she came back the next time I asked if I could please get cranberry sauce and she acted like I had asked for cherry pie filling. When she brought the correct condiment I asked why they had containers of cherry pie filling and she said she didn’t know. This entire meal every single “mistake” felt very intentional. At the end of the meal we asked for 5 boxes. We asked for 5 boxes and clarified the number of boxes multiple times. She brought out 4 boxes and said “I brought 4 boxes, is that enough?”. When I requested another box it took her at least another 5 minutes to bring it over and I had to ask another member of the staff and find her and ask her again. As I mentioned before this is not an experience I have had here and I was pretty...
