Nothing Bundt Cakes — Restaurant in San Diego

I am replacing my 2017 five star review with this due to poor customer service that received yesterday. I ordered a birthday cake and the sales people started to up sell everything they had. I’m not opposed to this. Every line of business makes the most profit from add-ons and I get that. It’s the service and the quality of addons that was very disappointing. I stopped by the store and placed an order for a large cake and paid for it. Later on I decided on the decorations and called them back“ Would you like birthday decorations? - we have all these options...”. So I was up sold on decorations, candles, and balloons over the phone. I told them that I was concerned that the decorated cake would not fit in the fridge. They said that they will make the decoration separately and give it to me in two different boxes and later on right before I serve I can assemble the decoration on top of the cake and everything would be fine. I also ordered five matching balloons which is a set that they sell to go along with it. Interesting thing was that being a repeat customer did not matter and they wanted to have the payment over the phone rather than when I pick up the cake. No problem, here take my card.

The next day I stop by to pick up the cake and the decoration is fully assembled! This after two calls last night to reiterate that I wanted them separate so it could fit into my fridge!! The balloons, unlike what was told, were small, with washed up colors and unimpressive. I asked for an extra set of balloons to make it better!

A very apologetic staff tried to find another cake, which they didn’t have, and offered to discount on the additional balloons. Which I declined.

I’ve ordered from this location many times, as their cakes are my daughter’s favorite for her birthday. Unfortunately, this last time they weren’t great. I bought a $42.50 double chocolate cake. It was beautiful, as usual, but wasn’t moist and rich like typical. The cake was very light (like a cake from a box) and had very few chocolate chips. I don’t understand why the quality of these cakes would suffer during this pandemic (since they are always carry-out) unless they are having trouble sourcing ingredients. If that were the case, I would’ve much preferred to be given the opportunity to purchase a smaller size or a different variety. I’ve been coming to this location for the last several years with no complaints. However, the last several times that I’ve been at this location, service has been lousy. The staff is neither courteous nor customer service oriented. When you’re at this location you feel like any questions that you ask about the cakes is a nuisance request?! in the general, you get the feeling that the staff is doing you a favor by taking your money. save your money and dignity!
