Great Pho! The portion of the #1 combo was huge and it tasted great! Perfect for cold nights. I also had a Thai iced tea with boba which tasted great. It was topped off with Whipped cream but the size of the drink is small. the pricing was great too; total of $21
The place is a little older but it was ok. The tables were frequently wiped down. Also, they had plenty of staff so I had no issue being attended, plus seating was ample even on a busy Saturday night.
When I sat down I watched a couple ahead of me being served by a waiter. I saw how rude the waiter was, especially when asking the recently sat-down customers if they had decided on what to get.
The crazy thing is there was no subtleness. The waiter threw his hands in the air, rolled his eyes- the works. Well, luckily I decided pretty quickly and by the time he got to me there was a minimal exchange of words. So if you decide to come here, I'd recommend you study the menu online and be ready to order.
Also any misunderstanding due to language barriers or mispronunciation will lead to the same issue. Paying for your meal is done up at the cash register. The man was behind one huge plastic board for his protection and that, plus some ambient noise, made it hard to understand when I asked if they accept cash. He didn't seem to like my question and pointed to the card machine(but their sign said they charge fees for card). So I asked again and it irritated him. His answer came with a bunch of annoyed mumbling. I handed him some bills which still seemed to annoy him.
It's a shame, because the food is great and worth coming for but there are some extremely hostile workers there. With that being said I also met some other workers who werent like that. Not friendly, but not antagonizing. Wish at the least that they were...
Read moreThe food was okay, my family ordered 5 bowls of Pho's and the whole order was made really fast. However, our experience at this place was awful. The price is unclear, the displayed number on the menu isn't true. We asked the employee for clarifications, and he said the number in the menu was meant for size small, the price for medium and large are different and they weren't listed in the menu. We proceed with the order choices we made. But when the food arrives, I can barely tell the differences in the size between each bowls. We proceed and finish our food anyway. After that, the payments process is what make our experience become a disaster. Our receipts was nearly fully handwritten on a piece of paper, we had a difficult time to analyzed what were written and had to ask the employee again for further clarification. After the explanation, the confusions become a whole new level, the price didn't match to the bowl sizes that we chose at the beginning. It was like the employee was making them up everytime we reached out. And no one mention about there will be a service fee, we used card for the payment and didn't really know if that's the reason why. In the end, the experience was a disaster and would never coming back...
Read morePhò Hòa in City Heights/Talmadge is a classic, fairly authentic Vietnamese pho dining experience. I give this spot a solid 4.4/5 stars. It’s not the greatest I’ve had, but it’s definitely up there. The layout of the restaurant, the busyness, and the carts they use remind me a lot of being on the train in Vietnam.
To say they’re on top of the tables is an understatement—the staff are constantly available, cleaning, and ready to take your order at any second. My friend and I ordered brisket, rare steak, and tripe pho. We loaded up our bowls with basil, jalapeños, hoisin, sriracha, and chili oil.
The broth was good, the meat was tender—particularly loved the brisket—and the portions were good. For some reason my bowl had a smaller portion of noodles, but there’s plenty of meat, so I’m not complaining. I think that the broth could use a bit more complexity, perhaps more anise and a longer steeping time with more bones.
All in all, it’s a solid pho though. Lots of seating, fast service, a range of meat cuts—basically a no-frills, classic pho eatery with good prices and a no-nonsense atmosphere. If I had to choose other pho places to rank above this one, I’d say Pho Sao Bien or Pho Minh are slightly better in terms of...
