This was the worst vegan food (we are vegan FYI) we’ve ever had, by far. We had the appetizer sampler which featured a variety of completely tasteless and super greasy finger foods. It was clear that nothing was freshly made, just put into a fryer from a freezer. The peanut sauce it came with tasted exactly like caramel. There was nothing peanut tasting about it. Syrupy sweet, super thick and a disturbing dark brown. The sweet potato fries it came with were the best part. The Chinese bbq bao buns were like no bao bun I’ve ever had. The dough was super dense, thick and tasted almost raw. There was almost no filling in this giant ball of gooey dough and what was in there did not taste of bbq, but like old smart dogs. The wine bottles were all sitting on top of the counter near the door and in the sunlight. My wife, who enjoys a good inexpensive wine, said what she got was undrinkable. Trust me, that’s saying a lot. Drinks were all served in plastic disposable cups. Utensils were plastic. Paper plates. Food was served in plastic clamshells even though we dined in. Weird and wasteful. But the worst part? They don’t follow COVID precautions. Our seats could see right into the kitchen where we could see one cook with her mask below her chin and the others all wore it below their noses. Another employee worked on signage completely unmasked in the dining area the entire time we were there. The only one properly masked was the host/server. But when he went on break, he took off his mask in the dining area and handed to the person who was making the signage and she PUT HIS USED MASK ON. I kid you not. At that point we’d had enough and paid our check and...
Read moreIt pains me to write this review because I used to love Sipz and they used to be a great Asian fusion spot. A few years ago they had anything from sushi to Thai food and boba. The food was flavorful and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Flash forward to today, I'm not sure what happened but I'm pretty sure it's a new ownership because none of those things I mentioned exist today. Starting with walking into the restaurant: it was loud, echoey and uninviting. The chairs were hard and sound bounced off all the walls, it was a loud and unpleasant experience. The menu has shrunk down to almost nothing, it feels like less than 10 Thai food dishes and that's about it. The menu used to be several pages long featuring sushi and offering boba in addition to Asian fusion. One of the worst things is they added non-vegan food to the menu! This alone makes me think it's a new ownership, otherwise I have no idea what happened. The staff were friendly but even that was problematic. The greeter had bad hygiene and the server asked way too many questions. It felt like we were on a game show and not in a good way. Was the food any good? Unfortunately it was bland, mushy and forgettable. The worst Pad Thai I've ever had. Overall Sipz is no longer a good spot I can recommend to anyone. Maybe the one in Clairemont is better but I don't...
Read moreThis was my second time here. The first time was horrible. I ordered take out when I was sick and there was a mix up with orders. I understand things happen. However I had to wait an additional 30 mins for my order and it was still wrong. The lovely lady faith said I couldn't get a discount but can get a free entree for a redemption, so I took the offer. I went in tonight and the service was awesome. I was greeted by pablo (great guy) it took a minute to figure out my food would be compensated but as soon as they knew everything was good. I ordered the veggie surprise with shrimp and I loved it. My waitress was very nice (forgot her name) and the other gentle man was amazing as well. I'm glad I took the offer of the free entree. I will definitely be back again. Thank you guys for making the experience...
