The play structure has alot of potential and diversity from climbing walls to bouncy bridges to wood houses to ladders, slides and swinging monkey bars, and the kids enjoy it, but there are way too many homeless people milling around.
The bathrooms have been closed for months because they've been trashed. I'm pregnant and have to pee frequently and fortunately a kind parks and rec employee let me into the center across the grass. That way I didn't have to leave the park and the kids got to play longer.
Another time I was there and this man came right up to our stroller and stood there staring with his sunglasses on whether at me or my girls or something else, I couldn't tell. And when my child went up to stroller to get her toy he just stayed right there next to her staring like literally inches from the stroller. I didn't know what he wanted but decided it's time to go. I have no problem with homeless people long as they mind their own business and dont get in the children's spaces. A playground is for kids. A stroller is for kids. Why he felt the need to be so close when he had all the grass and picnic tables hang out at, I have no idea.
And there are others who hang out right by play area who cuss and trade drugs and throw their trash everywhere. It's just real disrespectful, and I can't advocate that kind of behavior, mental excuses, sad stories, or not. I'm not going back despite the...
Read moreIt is a good park but there are some things to be aware of. Review of the park itself, the dog park, and the playground
THE PARK: I live a block from this park and come every day for both my dog and 1 year old child.
The park does have nicely maintained grass. Tons of squirrels live here which entertain the local dogs. It’s nicely shaded with lots of trees.
Don’t come here if off leash dogs bother you. People use it as an off leash dog park in the morning and after work. Often the dogs will run up to my dog (who is leashed).
There are sometimes unhoused people here using it as a space to sleep. Mostly just during the week days.
DOG PARK: The dog park is okay, I’m glad it’s there but it’s definitely not worth making a special trip for it. It is a dirt park and it has tree roots that cause a major tripping hazard for the dogs.
PLAYGROUND: The playground is the best part in my opinion. Now that my child is 1 we go there and let him play. The baby swings are a nice feature. It has good stuff for a toddler...
Read moreI previously rated this park as a 5 but have since then reneged and have reevaluated my rating to reflect my true feelings. Its now a 3 star venue due to the current shape and cleanliness. The grass is always a camouflage color, never fully green yet never fully brown. A patchwork of green hues and brown that sprawls the entire depth of the park. The amount of dog pee and poo is unsettling. While I love open spaces for people AND their pets to roam, this is not a dog park, but because of its perfectly central location, many people walk their dogs here and more often than not you'll find a dog or more running off leash. The number of vagrants that peruse this park and use drugs or sell them here ebbs and flows as there is a police presence here, it just isn't enough to stymie all the traffic. The public bathroom is notorious for discarded needles and crack pipes. I gave it 3 stars to celebrate its grand central location, it's vast size and its large shade...
