This has to be my new favorite Korean BBQ! They have so much more than Korean BBQ though.. they’ve got authentic high quality Korean dishes that were absolutely delicious!
We ordered the prime pork belly and prime brisket as well as a side of jjajamgmyun and the cold broth black noodles. The problem belly and beef brisket was such great quality! And the jjajamgmyun was the best I ever had with pieces of pork and onions in it. It usually comes with cucumbers but this one did not. And the cold broth noodles were surprisingly delicious! I would go back just for the cold noodles!
The food was all so good!! But the reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because of the service. When we started ordering, we knew what we wanted. We have been to many kbbqs and have also been to Korea so we are familiar with the culinary of Korea. We started to order our beef and pork belly and then as we were ordering the side the woman taking our order snatched the menu and turned it around and was like “you want the combo” and I was kind of taken back.. I said what? And she said, the combo comes with three meats and cheese corn steamed eggs and started naming these things that we did not want more did we order.. I looked at my wife and we shared this awkward star because we did not want cheese corn and it was kind of awkward that she was pushing it on us in such an aggressive way to turn the menu in my hand.. I politely told her no thank you and we continued to order. Then when we were done I asked for to go containers for our left overs and she brought two along with the check. Here’s where things got super uncomfortable for us. In the check we had been charged for the to go containers and I did not notice until after my card was charged. So I had asked for a third to go box and she said okay and never brought it. When I looked at the check I realized why.. charging for to go containers??? Are we serious? We wouldn’t have had an issue with it if they had told us before hand, just felt like a sneaky charge. Can someone tell me if they are picking up a to go order if they are being charged for the containers? Also, our total was less than what it would have been if we had gotten the combo she was pushing on us. So that...
Read moreI took a day trip to San Diego from LA with my two friends and this was on our itinerary as the main event.
I ordered the Large Combo for 3-4 people with 3 choices of meats. It was $89.99 and it came with a corn cheese, the choice of a kimchi or soybean stew, and a steamed pot egg. We got the pork belly, the pork jowl, and the abomasum (I had no idea what this was, but my sweet server recommended it!) The abomasum was really chewy and I wish it was cut smaller so the chewy-ness could be cooked down into crispier pieces, but the pork belly and jowl were excellent.
I thought it might not be enough since we were all really hungry and also added a side of the LA Galbi Meal (beef short rib on a hot stone plate and lots of grilled onion) and it also comes with rice, soybean or kimchi soup.
We also got a ton of side dishes aka banchan such as kimchi, pickled daikon, fish cake, fresh chives with spicy sauce, soy pickled onion, and sesame oil bean sprouts.
You can always tell the quality of a place by their side dishes at Korean restaurants and although it's not AYCE, the banchan here makes you forget about that and just enjoy the quality of the ingredients you're getting!
Everything was soooooo good and the portions were great!
We ate all the meats and were too full to finish all the banchan, but we kept telling each other how amazing the experience was as we were eating.
The servers are so amazing and would constantly come and check on our grill and replenish our sides without us asking. I love the hospitality and presentation of this restaurant so much.
The only thing I will say to look out for is that you may have to wait for parking and it depends on the busyness of the plaza (since they seem to have a bunch of great food businesses all in one) and it’s a small parking lot. Other than that, be ready to have such a good time!
If you're a local and haven't had SongHak, you're definitely missing out and need to try it! If you're not a local like me and have to travel 2+ hours for it, then I still say it was...
Read moreEverything about Song Hak KBBQ was SO good!
To clarify, it is not an AYCE KBBQ place, BUT I promise you, you'll get everything you need from their Songhak Combos.
What we ordered: Appetizer Buchu pancake - Korean pancake with chives The buchu pancake is a MUST. Use the red dipping sauce and this power combo with the pancake and sauce is absolutely amazing. The texture is perfectly crisp!
Entrees Medium Songhak Combo $69.99 (good for 2 people) The combo comes with 3 different kinds of meats, corn cheese plate, steamed egg, and your choice of soybean paste stew or kimchi stew. For the meats we chose: Large intestine (11/10 RECCOMEND) Prime pork belly Prime pork jowl
Sides The corn cheese, steamed egg and kimchi stew were all good and the steamed egg won my heart. I'm usually a hard critic when it comes to steamed eggs and this one was flavorful and tasted exactly how I like it!
Meats The large intestine was truly one of the best meats ever! Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, I decided to give it a try and it was SOO good! The description says it's a "low fat powerhouse" and that it was most accurate description. It packs so much flavor and pairs really well with the banchan.
Prime pork belly was ALSO my favorite. 2 sides of rice Jja jang myun - Korean Chinese black bean noodle (SO good especially when you combine it with some of the meats)
Drinks Strawberry flavored soju Cass beer This duo is supreme and you can't have kbbq without some soju and beer
Overall Food exceeded my expectations and they had amazing service. I can't wait to come back with a larger party and have all of my friends see how great this place is!
Pro Tip: Come before 5pm - parking can be kind of tight. They have their own parking lot shared with several other restaurants. However, Convoy can get super busy especially during peak hours. Lunch specials are Mon-Thurs 11:30am-3pm - a select portion of their menu are ~$3 cheaper than their dinner prices Try the...
