I believe I need to share one of the most awful dining experiences I have ever had today at Raki Raki Convoy, a place I used to visit frequently years ago when the food and service were much better than they are now. I ordered a popular original Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen for $17.95. I asked the server which of this one or another spicy one ($18.95) was better. The server started to sell the meat, which I had no idea about. I also asked if I could add spicy seasoning to the $17.95 one, and the answer was positive. To save $1, I decided to go for $17.95. I confirmed with the server that I just wanted to order that "No.1" choice I pointed to the "picture" and the price is $17.95. Later, after payment, I realized they charged me $31.66, not including my additional tip. I was not happy, but it wasn't to the point of being upset. I questioned the bill regarding the additional cost - the answer was the spicy sauce costs an extra $2.95, and the meat the server ordered for me is belly meat, which costs an extra $3.95, even though the "picture" marked $17.95 but the meat shown on the picture is belly meat so it costed extra $3.95 since I pointed to the "picture" not confirmed with the listed price besides the picture - this is misrepresentation of business, a total shady way to reap the benefit from consumers, which has to be regulated and corrected. No one told me in advance that the spicy sauce in the picture marked $17.95 needs to add more money. The staff decided to give me the refund since it was not a good communication but the further management rejected and the management response made me decided to mark 1 star and post this scheme to prevent future consumers fall into the same shenanigan: previously the spicy thing was always free, servers always knowledgeable and friendly never tried to cheat consumer in this shady way, the prices were transparent before, not now - now the specific part of meat, assembly-free elsewhere spicy seasoning all need extra money and marked on their upgraded menu as footnote size shady information. This is not the correct way to do business. I feel shame for the current management team, who have operated Raki Raki for 6 months now. The noodle taste and noodle quality also decreased, not the same type of noodle as before. The customer service was rude, the management is shady, and the food quality decreased. Feel sad for the original legacy of Raki Raki, one of my previously favorite ramen places in San Diego years ago. A staff gave me $5, repeated that it was his own money, I took it; I hope the manager will return $5 to the staff and refund me that extra unreasonable charged money back to me. It is not only about money, it is more about the way they handle business and...

One thing that was hard was the consistent roar of the background noise. It was like you almost had to yell at each other. It made the whole experience seem really rowdy and it really distracted a lot from the food to be honest. I really wish that they could do something with the acoustics, but I’m assuming not that many people complain. Everyone knows this place has a great reputation and I think it deserves it, but I would also have to say i’m under the impression that a lot of the reputation was earned a long time ago and I’m not sure that they’re doing anything to keep up with the competition. And trust me, there is a lot of new competition coming on the scene all the time. There are definitely places that are better than this place, but once upon a time it didn’t seem like there was.
We come here because it’s been sort of part of our family. I guess you could say it was for a long time. I’ve never done a review for it because I didn’t think there were that many other options so why wouldn’t we go here.?
I’m not saying the service is spectacular all the time, but I think it’s pretty good. I think the Owner, who happens to be Korean but somehow pretends like he’s Japanese, at least I think he does stay on top of the service which is good.
The parking can be tricky, especially since they installed a new bike lane on Convoy. Let’s face it, that’s utterly ridiculous and I really wish that the merchants of the area would’ve fought hard against getting that because I’ve literally never seen anyone riding a bike on Convoy. So yeah parking can be a little tricky though they do have a parking lot. You can also face wait times which can be 45 minutes or maybe even more. Is it worth the weight? I mean, we’ve waited that long and we weren’t disappointed.
Another positive for this place is their proximity to the Korean sweet shop around the corner called Somisomi, which we also recommend and I’ve definitely rated here too. It’s not a bad deal if you come in for Ramen and jump around the corner and get some great ice cream or Bingsoo.
Overall, really don’t feel like Raki Raki Would disappoint anyone, not even the most particular Ramen seeker, and they definitely have a lot that you can add to your Ramen on their add-on menu plus they have a variety, including vegetarian, and they even have a vegan bento box I believe. I don’t think anyone’s gonna be disappointed as I said so if you’re hungry and you want Ramen, I think you should certainly give this place a try. You...
Read moreFor whatever reason Google isn't being fair about posting my review. Many people have told me that my post isn't visible. And people should know about the truth especially about service when it is not properly given. So here I am reposting and update to see if it will change.
Great food ... crappy service. If you don't mind a server that rushes you to order and doesn't even give you a chance to speak or ask a question because she's too busy cutting you off all within 3 minutes then this is the place for you. Mind you she only had 4 tables with us included so I know it can't be because she was busy. And even so, making some kind of personable connection with your guest is kind of important in the restaurant/food industry.... coming from experience. And to top it off we weren't ready for the check but she said "here's your check because I have to clock off". Okaaaaay then pass us to the next server and they could get your tip. But I ended up paying and tipping because I was trying to literally be the bigger person here and not fly off the handle. But in the future there are other ways of delivering a check when you have to go, there are more polite ways for you to generally serve guests. I don't know if all your servers are like this but this one needs to be trained in hospitality big time!
Everything we ordered was great, it tasted great. But it's not worth coming all the way out here for good food and ambiance when you have crappy service. We came in today around 4pm so figure out who the server is. Female with dark hair. She was the only one serving. I would give a name but she never introduced herself like you are suppose to. Hope you guys take...
