When we(3 people) arrived, we were told to sit wherever, there was a couple other tables with people already eating and a man who was sat right before us. The gentleman ordered, and then they came and took our order. The gentlemen ordered a combo 2 with fries, and we just got a combo 1. Then a party of 4 came in 20 mins later and a party of 4(plus a baby) about 5 mins after them. The guys food came out. The server took the orders of the other 2 parties.... and we waited.... and waited.... and waited the party of 4 got their food... and we waited... party of 4 had more food come out... 45 mins later (guy who came in with us had almost demolished his entire dinner which was more food than we ordered) the server finally remembered us and tells us they forgot our food (obviously he forgot us too and hadn't even bothered to check on us or the food until that point) I was ready to leave but he said it would be right out. Our food FINALLY comes out, and right after ours comes the table of 4 with the baby. The food was ok.... but definitely nothing special, there was only 1 piece of corn in the bag, maybe 2 potatoes and 5 pieces of sausage. The Crab Hut is busier but definitely better! So the guy who came in at the same time as us received his food (larger order than ours) and was able to eat most of it, the party that came in 20 mins AFTER us and had way more food had time to Order and eat and get more food out to them before ours finally came out immediately followed by the table who came in 30ish mins after us and had ordered way more than us' food came out. The server made an excuse about the kitchen staff but didn't try to make it right in any way, we were very disappointed by this place and the service. The restaurant wasn't busy by any means. AND then when we went to pay, he tried to charge us over $220!!! He was charging us for the table with 4 people (THAT'S HOW BIG THEIR ORDER WAS - they came in 20 mins+ after and got served first). I put my card in the machine (hand held) and almost paid it, but I noticed the amount right before I was about to put in the tip and yanked my card out. Again, no apology, just oh, that's their bill. Let me pull yours up.... our was like $70... so 1/3 of what the table...
Read moreSeriously disappointed. My fiance and I would come here 2-3x a month. The crab always tasted great. Firm, coming out of the shell easy, great color, etc. Typically you would get a great amount if you chose one of the combos. The wait staff is normally wonderful, friendly, efficient. I used to be happy support a family run business but after my most recent order on Friday I will never support them again. We made a to go order(never an loopissue before) we picked it up brought it home opened the bag and could tell something was off. It didnt smell right. The normally pink/red shells were a dark brown. The crab meat was mush and still didnt separate from the shell. Our order came with corn that looked like cellophane wrapped around brown kernals. I wish I would have taken pictures of the food before tossing it. We called almost immediatly to ask for a remedy. We were initially offered 10% of the prove for a single order of crab legs (2-3 bucks). After throwing away almost an entire $70 order of food. We screwed up by paying cash. Next offer was 10% of the total bill and a 10% off coupon for "next time"... we decided that something was better than nothing. We go to the store and my fiance is in there for 45+minutes waiting, she gives him a check and tells him to leave. We gave the owner the check back. They obviously have bigger issues than a repeate customer getting a bad order and asking for their money back. The whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth (literally) and was a reminder to pay with a card if something like were to ever...
Read moreDining at Submarine Crab on Convoy Street was a seafood lover's dream! With its roots deeply embedded in Louisiana and Texas flavors, this restaurant brings a fresh, exciting twist to seafood boil in San Diego.
We ordered the Combo 1, which included 1 pound each of snow crab legs and crawfish (we opted for fresh crawfish for a small extra charge) tossed in their classic Cajun sauce. The seafood was incredibly fresh, noticeably superior to other seafood boil restaurants we've tried—no strange aftertaste or overpowering flavors. It was delightful to find that the combo included potatoes, corn, and sausage at no additional cost, something often charged extra elsewhere. Plus, being able to choose the spice level was a bonus that allowed us to personalize our meal.
Submarine Crab truly knows how to create an enjoyable seafood boil experience. They provided high-quality food gloves, plastic bibs, wet wipes, a scrap bowl for shells, and all the necessary tools—scissors, crab crackers, and picks—to make the dining experience effortless and clean.
We also indulged in the fried soft shell crab served with crunchy fries. It was perfectly crispy, juicy, and flavorful, making it a must-try for those willing to spend a bit more. The beef with rice dish was decent, featuring quality meat and tasty sauce, though not particularly extraordinary.
For the portion sizes and exceptional quality provided, the prices here are unmatched by most seafood places in San Diego. Submarine Crab has certainly set a new bar for seafood boil restaurants, and we can't...
