I've only tried out the Sushi Deli in downtown and my wife has never been to any and this was my first time here at Sushi Deli 3. I was definitely excited to try it out since it's been 10+ years since my downtown visit. We were quickly seated on a Tuesday night around 610pm; just in time for happy hour (ends at 630pm). We started with the crab Rangoons, edamame, and garlic shishito peppers. So far a good start to the app ($2 off menu price during happy hour). The sushi menu was overwhelming but after consideration we went with the tuna and salmon (Taco Tuesday) tacos. The Katie roll and snapping salmon roll. For the kids, build your own ramen bowl (thick egg noodles, chicken thighs, and tonkotsu broth). Our appetizers were amazing (crab Rangoon, edamame, and garlic shishito peppers). This is where our dinner went down hill. The Katie roll was very bland and the salmon fish was very poor quality. The snapping salmon was decent but masked with sauce. Our waiter mentioned that the cooks put Udon noodles instead of thick egg noodles and we had to wait a bit longer for the correction. It was nice of them to split the bowl for my 2 kids and it looked very delicious. However, upon tasting the broth it was super salty. As if someone put in an extra handful of salt. I had mentioned it to our waiter and his response was he didn't know how to help us but said put water in it to dilute it. Our waiter was nice but service was on the amateur end. Also if you come during happy hour make sure you check your receipts for the happy hour price. I had to call it out and have our waiter update our receipt. The hype here is overrated. But luckily you have a prithla of sushi choices on Convoy.

March 2023: Came here with my wife for dinner when they opened for dinner on Thursday. There was only one party in line so of course we were seated right away. We are returning diners, although last time was back in 2015. The place has not changed from what we remember. There are two separate parking lots, with the one on the back side being for take-away/delivery. We ordered a drink each, gyoza, some nigiri and five rolls. All of the food were not disappointing. The nigiri had great fish-to-rice ratio. The rolls had the right amount of rice too. The gyoza was fried, so a different texture from the more commonly steamed. My favorite rolls from this time were the Triple Threat and the Hot Hot Pearl. The service was friendly and kept checking on us. The environment/atmosphere isn't loud, so it's easy to have a conversation. We would definitely come back again. September 2023: Came again for a late dinner at 9. The place was starting to clear out so we were able to be seated right away and given water shortly after. My wife and I ordered fried calamari, Black Magic roll, Snapping Salmon roll, and nigiri. The calamari was crispy and cooked well. They came with two different dipping sauces (a spicy and a creamy). The rolls were tasty. The fish on the nigiri wasn't as good, lacking flavor. The nigiri, alone, is not what will get me to come back.

Sushi Deli is a San Diego staple for quick, quality Japanese. The ramen, bento boxes, and rolls are always on point. They also have a full bar and a great beer selection. I really enjoy the vegetarian roll options, especially the Bee Hive. Their miso soup is also very good. It’s a laid back, straightforward Japanese spot that is great for low-key dates, family lunches, and even small parties. There is a decent amount of parking in the lot next to the restaurant, and the street is usually fairly open as well. Mitsuwa and Bookoff are less than a block away, if you’d like to visit a great Japanese market and used book/music store before or after your visit. Common Theory, a bar/restaurant with an immense beer selection, is not too far either. Update: Came to Suhsi Deli 3 today with my friend for dinner. We had the Moe roll, bee hive roll, fried gyoza, monkey brains, and avocado tempura. Everything was super tasty. The wait wasn’t bad either for the dinner rush—maybe 10 minutes. Everything was well-presented and tasted pretty good, despite them being slammed with customers. Sushi Deli 3 is, for its price point, still a solid sushi option in mid-northern San Diego.

We were so excited to try this place since we have been to Sushi Deli 1 and Sushi2 for many many years now. It was our first time at this one, but we were told it’s the same menu and same everything. We were given a QR menu to scan and sure enough, same menu same everything... UNTIL the food arrived...

the ramen is advertised to have ramen eggs which are marinated and w a soft undercooked / yammy yolk. However they served us a very cheap quality ramen w cheap tasting and looking noodles and HARD plain boiled eggs 🤮😖 the sushi also seemed to have a different consistency and quality. It was a little weird that all the quality of everything we were served was so much lower. I hesitated to say anything at first, I was really hungry as they make you wait a long time and we were already seated and about to eat... on the ONE hand I’m super hungry, in the other the quality is obviously so much lower and cheap !!!! So I bring it up to their attention and the waitress and manager just said well sorry about that but there isn’t anything we can do... (her w a condescending tone). Says she “discounted the bill” which had ZERO discounts other than the normal appetizer discount of the day! She just made it worse. We paid our Bill in full and tipped in full, but never ever will we come back.

The very least they could have done is taken the ramen out or discounted the bill in half or something. It ruined our meal and our night. The people next to us ordered ramen too, when they left we noticed they left it almost untouched too, so I’m guessing they didn’t like it either.

All in all, service was aweful and food was aweful. Needless to say we are never coming back or...

One of many great Sushi Deli locations. To start of with, they have a bar section which allows you to avoid tables if you prefer to sit on stools. It's nice if you want to enjoy a quick beer or bite with a friend or two. The location has an outdoor section and indoor section. It really depends on you on whether if you want to sit outside or inside, but go based on the weather. Sometimes its nice to just outside-ish with some sunlight. The food is great. They have many types of rolls which makes things fun and I would recommend their baked rolls. It's warm and new to your taste palate. Normally sushi is served raw and cold but sometimes thinking outside of the box is much more interesting than always staying in the box. They have amazing deals during happy hours which allows you to try their lobster or salmon "rolls" (I'm not sure what to really call them) at a reasonable price. The beer is considerably affordable during happy hours. Do expect a line sometimes when you eat here. The location is popular so don't expect to be seated the moment you arrive for happy hour. If you want, you can have a reservation set (might want to double check with them) so you can avoid the line. If you decide to wait, don't expect to wait too long. The line moves at a fast enough speed which can result in the wait not being too long. I do not have photos/videos which I apologize for. But you can check out other people's post for those and I sure you will come to a reasonable decision on your own. I hope you enjoyed the post and try the...
