There’s a lot of good Indian restaurants in Rancho Bernardo, and they all have their own regional interpretation of traditional dishes and specialties. Tandoori Xpress makes all their food to order now, it’s not like Express where there’s hot pans scooped and ready. It’s Xpress means it’s ready when stated. I’ve been doing food delivery a year now, and I almost always accept this restaurant because the food is always hot and ready when I arrive. And the food is excellent! The owner came in clutch this weekend when I was too tired to fix anything, and he timed it perfect to the end of my shift. For two people we got vegetable samosas, a curry which comes with basmati rice, garlic and plain naan. I got extra rice just in case, but it was unnecessary..the portions are more than generous.Everything was great..we got medium spice for the curry and it was perfect to taste all the other flavors, with some heat..could probably have gone up a notch but wouldn’t go full spicy. Samosas huge, and great with the chutneys, and one order naan is good for two people. It was all super delicious and packed well for takeout. Was able to have some leftover for breakfast the next day, cos that’s how we do it here.
I’ve delivered from here almost every day since Covid lockdowns, and the owner has always had a face covering every time. He is running the show, taking orders, monitoring kitchen and delivery tablet, packing the meals, manning the counter and dealing with drivers. He is always kind, but busy! I confidently recommend this restaurant!
Thought it time to update, since by now I have tried most all Indian restaurants on my route..and this one wins! For both quality of food and service, Tandoori Xpress is our favorite. This weekend I picked up our meal after work, and it was hot and ready when I arrived. I only ordered for two, but on my way home learned two more would be with us. And there was plenty for all! We got the Chicken Makhani, (Very delicious, rich and flavorful, medium) Chana Samosa (described as appetizer, but plentiful as meal, and so good!) Both Garlic and Regular Naan( large and perfect) Vegetable Samosa ( these are giant, and the best around) and basmati rice. No leftovers this time, but I was very grateful everyone was...
Read moreLunch Review: I came at 12:10pm on a Friday. The restaurant was mostly full, but me and my friend were able to find a table immediately. It seems people come and go frequently enough that seating shouldn't be a problem.
Location: Parking is an issue here during busier times. They are located in a complex with several other popular places, but the parking lot can't support all the businesses. I recommend parking on the street and walking over if you can't find a spot. It's worth it!
Atmosphere: They had nice photographs and furniture. While I was there they had Bollywood music videos playing on all the TVs, which helped keep my table entertained when the conversation lulled.
Service: Friendly and pretty quick. They brought out a small soup immediately to hold us over, and the food came out in about 5 minutes. Regular drinks are self-serve from one of those fancy Coke soda machines with the touch screen.
Food: I ordered the lunch special with Chicken Tikka Marsala and Vegetable Korma. It came with a small soup, a drink, and a generously sized plate that included rice and naan. The food came out very fresh (hot!).
Price: I paid about $9 for the meal. It's a little higher than some other lunch specials, but for the quantity and quality of food I think it's quite reasonable. Quantity: Plenty of food. I struggled to get close to finishing my plate. People with bigger appetites will be pleased with how much food they receive. Quality: Excellent! The chicken tikka marsala was very tasty and a little sweeter than servings from other places I've been. The vegetable korma was great too. The rice was cooked as you'd expect. The naan had a few small burnt areas, but I couldn't taste it. Overall it was...
Read moreThe food is very high quality, stunning interior, and very nice staff.
We just moved in nearby and got some tikka masala chicken and lamb, and mango chicken curry, with naan and mango lassi. All of the food tasted incredible (I'm getting hungry just thinking about it). The curry was very flavorful and the meat was good quality. Four of us got three dishes and some naan and filled us up about perfectly. It came out to about $60 for the three dishes, 3 mango lassi, and naan ($15 each for us) and was well worth it (best food I've had in a while).
The person who served us (I'm assuming the owner) was very kind and patient, as well as attentive and conversational. He also mentioned they have lunch specials from 11-3:30 on weekdays where you get any two choices (between veggie and meat options, mix and match), plus soup, salad, nice, naan, vegetable of the day and choice of curry for $9. We'll certainly be coming back to this place and trying that out. I should also mention I'm personally bad with spicy food, and we got mild curry and I had no problems with it, so if you're like me, know that you can eat here too : )
As for popularity, it seems most people call in orders. We were the only ones who sat there, although this is just based off of two visits total. The time to get the meal was reasonably fast. Worth mentioning in the review, that at time of writing the soda machine did not work.
Would give six...
