I've eaten many scones in my life. Probably 1000 or more. My favourite way to eat them is with jam and double cream. Now and then I might just butter it and maybe throw a fried egg on top. When I moved away from Ireland I was unable to get scones so I began to make them myself. If I had to eat only one baked good forever it would be scones. All of this is to prove my credentials as a sconnoiseur. Or at least I thought I was. That all changed when I visited andytown coffee roasters in outer sunset on the 13th of September 2024. I went to the counter to order coffee and saw a beautiful looking scone available to purchase. I never turn down a scone opportunity so I immediately ordered one. On closer inspection I saw it was a "cheddar and spring onion" scone. This stopped me in my tracks. In all my years of eating scones, I've never had one with other items baked into it. Usually it's just the standard mix of flour, eggs, butter, yoghurt, buttermilk, caster sugar and baking soda. I was honestly dubious. This was a reworking of everything I'd known up to this point in time. It could go either way. From the very first bite I knew that this was a watershed moment in my life. There was my life before this scone, and now the life after it. The perfect golden flakiness, the salt flakes on top, the beautiful cheese and onion taste in the mouth. This was a deep experience. The food resurrected memories of childhood, my granny's kitchen full with baking aroma as we made them together. Myself baking batches far from home to share with friends. Me baking those same batches back in my granny's kitchen to serve to the mourners at her wake. This continuum now had a new nodal point. Myself, sitting in outer sunset, at the edge of the continent, experiencing something I would have never expected - a whole new mode of operation. There are moments in life where everything in life suddenly seems possible. That a new path can be forged. That the old ways of doing things can be remixed, retaining the best of the old while incorporating the new. This was one of those moments. The coffee was also...

Cute, straight out of Pinterest, coffee shop in Sunset! Decor is amazing, menu is simple, and coffee is on point. The baristas here are all so cheerful and friendly :) It has such a fun vibe. I came here to celebrate their 1st birthday! I got to try their famous Snowy Plover! I wanted to get a latte but I could get a latte anywhere, the snowy plover though is unique to this place.
The snowy plover consists of Pellegrino sparkling water, espresso (already sweetened with brown sugar), and homemade whipped cream. The simplicity of this drink shouldn't fool you because it's just simply wonderful and refreshing. It's basically a fizzy coffee drink. I'm not a fan of cream but their whipped cream was delicious...almost like ice cream. So glad I got this drink but I was a little bummed that I missed out on the latte art (because it looks so cool).
The cafe is small with only 3 small tables that can sit 2 and one big table in the front of shop that can sit 5-7 people. They have outdoor seating as well that can sit parties of 2. It's located on a street corner with easy street parking. Highly recommended if you're...
Read moreI caught off guard by how good the coffee and sandwich were. I saw that they offer expresso shot with whipped cream. Who would have thought how much more you can make out of whipped cream? It is crazy! The whipped cream is fluffy yet still in shape in the warm expresso. The subtle sweet flavor complements the bitterness and slight sourness of the coffee so well. It is arguably one of the whipped cream I ever tasted. And the grilled cheese. Again. How much more you can make out of cheese and bread? And cheddar cheese? Yes it is heavenly fluffy. I don't know how but the texture is mouth filling in a voluminous way so you can enjoy it without feeling heavy. The bread is grilled to perfection, lightly crispy and soft inside. I definitely gonna go back for more! On a hot day, I would love to try their...
