We went around 8pm and was lucky it wasn't overly busy. This place is cozy if not tight, but that's part of the charm. Many local places in Korea are like this, usually even smaller so this place has that vibe. We've been here before but I've never written a review, but this visit compelled me to share one in hopes that management might see it.
This place is, and can be good, there are some dishes that are good, but some (on our visit) were just not good at all and would never order it again.
Let's start with the bad. Bulkogi -Was not good. Dry and bland, hardly any flavor, the stuff in the hot foods section at Kukje is far better (and it's not exactly great). No excuse for this, and I don't give any Korean restaurant slack for messing up a hallmark dish.
Cheese corn - If you like the idea of overly cooked canned corn (see pic) covered in a layer of melted cheese and nothing else as good, then my friend, you haven't had good cheese corn. Would never order this again.
The good/ok.
Kimchee fried rice was good, tangy as it should be, with a fried egg on top.
Kimchee pancake was ok/good. Nothing to write home about but we were hungry, it came out fast and was decent enough. Sister House in Hayward makes a good example, nice and lightly crispy on the outside, good kimchee taste.
Service was friendly. The place is tidy, they clean up your area and might even vacuum before they seat you. They are open late which is great for people who work late or had a night out, and are hungry again.
Son comes here and always orders the fried chicken and some other things so those are probably better. Read other reviews and find out what others order...
Read moreBest hole in a wall Korean restaurant I had so far. Coming inside, the atmosphere is very remarkable with groups of friends would hang out and eat.
We had several dishes shared, including the Whole Fried Chicken which hear me out, is dry, but it is what most of us in the group grew up eating with, so this brings back memories from our homes. The Beef Kimchi Fried Rice is flavorful with the egg. The Rice Cakes (Tteokbokki) are also great in flavor with the sauces and the chewy texture, has a good kick of spiciness. The Beef Mushroom Stew is very good as well, the soup packing good kick and flavor, also being generous with the toppings. Kimchi and Seafood Pancake is like any korean pancakes you will find on better restaurants, good texture and taste but nothing very special about it. The Japchae is what surprised us the most being very flavorful and cooked fresh really well; usually being a banchan with not that much taste, this one was that delicious.
All in all, we had the greatest time in a heartwarming meal with Toyose. Prices are really good too. Reservations are recommended as we came right when they open on a Sunday, the place is filled...
Read moreI came by here while visiting a friend - we got to the restaurant around 7:30pm.
The restaurant, on the outside, was very unassuming, however, upon entering, you find a warm and inviting dining interior. There are few booth seats near the entrance, with semi-see through privacy curtains.
There was only one party of 2 ahead of us when we got there, but it was still a good 15-20 minute wait.
We were seated in the back dining area, and got some drink orders in, as well as an order of spicy edamame.
I ended up ordering the stir fried chicken gizzard, which came out sizzling on a serving tray. The gizzard was a bit tougher than I was expecting, but the flavor was good and paired well with the rice and beer.
Not too bad overall, but I wish they had wifi, since their menu is via QR code, and signal is very spotty at the back dining room. They did have some printed menus on hand, but we ended up having to ask for them, since neither of us managed to get enough signal to view the...
