Read moreThe Great Highway became a part-time park during the pandemic. It was so popular that it stuck around, and has become a cornerstone of the Outer Sunset ocean community. Closed to vehicle traffic on Friday afternoons, weekends, and holidays, visitors can enjoy a 2-miles stretch or roadway for walking, running, biking, etc.
In addition to simply being a much-needed buffer between the city and the beach, a local not-for-profit has emerged to bring events and community to this public space. Sundays At The Beach include weekly music, yoga, and tai chi. Events like Stokefest have brought thousands out to enjoy the sunset and connect with local organizations.
