Free Etiquette Lessons and One Electric Outlet If your device is low on power, skip this coffee shop. It has one outlet next to the refrigerator and offers no extension cord!
I pass by this coffee shop twice a day and have been very excited about the opening of a seemingly high end coffee/wine house in my neighborhood. Today I had my first and last cup of coffee there.
I took my partner to Breck’s to show the place and have a drink. She ordered a decaf coffee drink and was told that they were out of ALL decaf coffees!!
While she was looking for a tea, I placed my order. The barista instead of making my drink or waiting, turned to my partner and with a hurried voice asked if she wanted anything. I wondered if the barista did not notice that my partner was scanning the menu. Then I looked around the nearly empty shop and wondered what’s the rush given that no one was waiting to order a drink?
My partner ordered a tea, the barista rang the order and left the counter to make the drinks. I could have easily moved past this less-then-welcoming treatment. What happened next is simply amusing.
To pay for our order, I placed a bill on the counter. After making the drinks, she picked up the money, made the change and told me loudly, so everyone in the shop could hear, that it is rude to leave money on the counter.
My first thought was that leaving money on the counter might be a health department violation. I asked her why it is rude? She said that by leaving the money on the counter, I ignore that she exists as a person serving me.
I explained that she seemed to be rushed and left the money on the counter to expedite the check out.
Without hesitation, she repeated that regardless of the reason, it is ALWAYS RUDE to leave money on the counter. It diminishes the server and I should not do it again.
About this time a customer walked in. I took the drink and went to my bewildered partner, to start a meeting. Her computer was low on power, and that’s when we learned that the entire coffee shop has one outlet only!!
Two minutes into the meeting, the barista announced that the order for the newly arrived customer is on the counter. When the customer, who was outside making a phone call, did not react immediately, she repeated the order so loud that we decided it is time to move to one of the 6 coffee shops around the corner on Clement Street.

Read morestopped by with my partner on a Sunday 5/29/200 morning around 11am while picking up some pastries next door. My partner ordered two latte with oat milk, when we got the coffee, my boyfriend took a sip and immediately he knew something was off. His latte was with almond milk, and mine was oat milk. we started to panic because my bf is allergic to nuts and that's why we specifically asked for oat milk. My bf went back into the shop and tried to confirm with the staff. The barista responded "I am pretty sure it is oat milk." My bf came back out and I took a sip of the coffee, and it was clearly made with almond milk. My bf went back inside to talk to the basrita, the barista was annoyed and instead of apologizing, she responded to my bf and said "you should have checked". How can we check? Should I just make the coffee myself? and we did check and that was why we went back to clarify. I am very disappointed and mad for the attitude and service we received from this barista, my bf could have died from the almond milk because of her lack of seriousness and awareness of a customer's allergies. All we wanted was an apology and to remake the coffee, and hopefully she can be more aware in the future. Instead of apologizing, we were blamed for not checking and having allergies. If you don't care about your customer's allergies, then should consider not working in food...
Read morevisiting SF and after picking up croissants at the Ariscault bakery, we spotted other people with food and bags from the bakery sitting in an outside seating area. We didn’t realize it was specific to Breck’s and sat down. Later on a very rude waiter came by asked us if we were dining at Breck’s, we said no, quickly realized our mistake and apologized. He very rudely shooed us from the table and said he has customers waiting. I tried to apologize, and explain that there were others that were seated that were from the bakery, so we thought we could sit there. He scoffed and told us that it didn’t make it morally right, and continued to motion for us to get up with a downright nasty attitude. A simple, polite explanation would have sufficed, and we would have gladly moved. Don’t know this place but I would never want to come back or try it out. A polite attitude and nice service can take you very far and clearly this place doesn’t...
