I was baptized at birth (I'm approaching 24 now), and my thoughts on faith, spirituality, god, what have you... Have gone on an interesting journey to say the least. While I still don't at present consider myself a Catholic or a Christian even (or maybe even a theist in the traditional sense of God watching over us and caring for us and guiding us and all that), I have tremendous respect for those with a deep faith in the unknown.
It was following the death of an old family friend, Fr. Francisco Vincente, O.P., that I found myself drawn to Gregorian Chant. This past weekend, while walking the beach listening to Paschale Mysterium, I decided I'd find a Latin Mass. I came to the Sun. 11:30 Mass. It's been a long time since I've been to church that wasn't out of desperation, or to pay respect to the dead, or to fulfill familial duties. And I've never been to a Latin Mass. But I really enjoyed the experience, and I look forward to going again. The pastor gave a tremendous homily too.
EDIT 7/28/18: After sporadically attending Mass (Tridentine of course!) A few more times, I finally began regularly attending starting Easter. In June I moved back out to East Bay, but still try to make it out to Star at least once a month -- the building, the reverence, the priests all hold a special place...
Read moreThe Lord led me to this church two summers ago. I thought I would never find another church I loved as much as St Monica's in Santa Monica,CA. I thought, "This place is heaven on earth. My heart is full God. I wish I could come here every day!" AT the time I was living in Danville. How would it ever happen? Then, six weeks ago, the Lord supernaturally arranged my life so that I had to be here! My dad, a vet, is being treated at VA on Clement St. Rosary every day after noon mass. Wonderful parishioners. Incredible staff and clergy. For those who notice, the spirit of service and humility permeate the sanctuary. Confession every single day! Fifteen minutes before each mass! God is good. God is in control. If you want to deepen your walk with the Lord, and be in an environment where the Blessed Mother is showered with the reverance and homage due her, according to scripture (Luke 1:26-55 & Revelation Chapter 12: 1-17) this is the church for you. You will feel as if you are already in heaven. As soon as I take my seat in this sacred, anointed church, I say o er and over.. "My God, thank you for giving me heaven on earth. Thank you." The video shared here is my dog, laying prostrate before the tabernacle of Christ two days ago. She did not...
Read moreI hesitate to leave a poor review on a church, God forgive me. This is a beautiful church with beautiful liturgy and music and friendly parishioners. However, not everything preached reflects what the Catholic church teaches, which is why I feel like I must leave this review, for anyone who might end up in doubt like I was. What is preached here on marriage seems quite different than St. John Paul II's Mulieris dignitatem. In the words of our beloved saint, "Whereas in the relationship between Christ and the Church the subjection is only on the part of the Church, in the relationship between husband and wife the "subjection" is not one-sided but mutual... The awareness that in marriage there is mutual "subjection of the spouses out of reverence for Christ", and not just that of the wife to the husband, must gradually establish itself in hearts, consciences, behaviour...
