Our community center was hosting a 40-person sit-down event with community stakeholders and city officials alike, and Gumbo Social helped us make it an incredibly special event with utmost deliciousness and style. They provided seamless catering, bringing a whole buffet set-up with beautiful presentation (edible flowers and all!) and farm-to-table delicacies. They shared their infamous gumbo, sweet potato puree, green goddess salad with seasonal farmer's market veggies, hearty rice and beans, a refreshing watermelon salad, and their mesquite chicken. So many people don't realize that they do so much more than their namesake (although their gumbo is my favorite)!

Chef Dontaye and Chef Quanisha took great care of our us and our clients, providing not only incredible and nourishing food, but all the details of a catering event.

It's an honor to support this small business that is owned and operated by a born-and-raised San Franciscan and steward of good food and community,...

Second time at the actual Gumbo Social restaurant and the gumbo was fantastic again! It’s consistently amazing, whether you have it at the restaurant or a street fair! Best gumbo for certain. My party of four came at 6pm on a Thursday, found parking right in the front, and had a great dinner. Besides the chicken and sausage gumbo, I also had a shrimp po’boy (love the secret sauce and how generous they are with the grilled shrimp) and hoecakes (which have crispy edges!)!

I like that Mr. Gumbo chats with his customers, and that eco-friendly measures are in place! It’s a nice place to relax and enjoy some great food and company! They also have an extensive variety of hot sauces for you to use! This is a small business that I’m happy to support with my appetite and review. Thanks, Gumbo...

I’ve been a fan of Gumbo Social for years, and I couldn’t be more proud of their new shop. I brought a group of 4 for a late lunch, and we got street parking right in front of the restaurant. Warmly greeted by the host, the owner walked us through the menu and made excellent recommendations. Half my party had never tasted Gumbo Social before, and I was so pleased to share such goodness with them. Two types of salad, gumbo, and po boy sandwiches. Plus red beans and rice with duck!😍 I love the complex flavors of Dontaye’s gumbo, and he brings that approach to every dish! Top it all off with fresh watermelon lemonade and banana pudding, and my mouth is watering just thinking of it. It’s right off the T muni line so discover this place for yourself (and brag to your friends...

This was a great find in Bayview! I don't usually visit this part of town, but I decided to come for SF Restaurant Week. Good: - The Shrimp PoBoy was amazing - one of the best I've had - the amount of savory sauce and the shrimp itself were so fresh and well portioned - The gumbo was a little salty but very filling - super great tasting and I liked the chicken and sausage one - The cajun fries were well seasoned as well. - Prices were so great - $15 per person for way more than enough food - The Brussel sprouts were also so tasty! Bad: - The food took a bit to come out and we had to wait for about 15-20 minutes - Self service for the most part - Casual diner vibes Overall enjoyed the experience here and would come just for the shrimp PoBoy.

Amazing gumbo and the shrimp po’boy was mouthwatering. We added blue crab to the chicken and sausage gumbo just to top off what was already a flavorful and filling dish. We ordered a large bowl which was more than enough for two people to share. They were gracious enough to ask if we wanted to split the po’boy in half knowing we planned to share everything. Great service for a walk up ordering experience. We also ordered a very tasty cucumber salad. Crisp and refreshing contrast to the spicy gumbo. So good! Everyone working there were so nice and fun to talk to. Atmosphere was simple and laid back. Nothing pretentious about this place. Nice people. Great food. Really enjoyed it.

Came in about an hour before closing and was greeted by the owner, Mr Dontaye Ball. Now I’ve had their food at the Sunset Farmers Market before so I was so excited to be able to go to their brick and mortar restaurant in the heart of the Bayview in San Francisco. Mr. Ball so graciously whipped up 2 PoBoy sandwich’s for my son and daughter and a bowl of gumbo for me. My other 2 children are real picky eaters, so Mr. Ball made them shrimp tacos so they can have something to eat. The food was cool perfectly and with it being close to closing time, I was surprised. Hey you know restaurants around closing time get lazy. I can’t wait to see where Mr. Ball takes Gumbo Social.
