BBQ? This Spot in SF Has My Heart!

A friend recommended this place, so I decided to check it out. Came at shortly after opening to an empty restaurant which I appreciate. Ordered 2 omakase sets, an ikura uni bowl and some soju. The uni bowl was tasty and definitely satisfied that craving. The omakase is great value. 15 pieces + a few extras was a delight. The fish was a good slice with not too much rice. Perfect nigiri bites of varying textures and flavors. They even served the fried shrimp heads for not one but two ebi Nigerian. The service was friendly and quick. She also let us sit anywhere in the restaurant and we opted by the window for that natural light. Be mindful if you get the omakase they make all the pieces on a board so it takes time to assemble. Overall for everything was around $250 before tip. The omakase set again was $96 for 15 pieces. Check this place out!

This place is wonderful! Service was impeccable. Everything came quickly and exactly as we asked for. The atmosphere was quaint and comfortable - made you want to sink back and enjoy the experience of eating here. My daughter and I had rolls - they were definitely straight from the kitchen and high quality, fresh ingredients. But the highlight was the Okonomiyaki (kimchee pancakes) my girlfriend ordered. I couldn’t take my eyes off of this dish - it almost looked like it was dancing:) so beyond mesmerizing - and a dish she absolutely loved. I can’t explain and give it justice - you’ll just have to try it!! If you like kimchee, try this unique dish! But honestly, you can’t go wrong - everything we ordered was high quality, authentic and delicious!

I'm amazed that $15-$20 sushi rolls can taste so plain and disappointing. If you have ever had even decent sushi before then just go somewhere else. But, If you are looking to just eat and feel full on undercooked old rice, and the same fake crab and avocado filling then this is the place for you. I'm so happy they don't need to give dinners ginger with their rolls, there is no flavor to anything so you never need to cleanse your palate with the what would have been unnecessary ginger. I have eaten at too many sushi places to count and this is the worst place I have been too, mostly because of the rediculous price compared to the quality and taste. For example, the sunomono salad was $9 and was literally a few slices of cucumber in rice vinegar with ONE shrimp, that's it, 1, and it was hard and chewy, luckily there was also 1 piece of crab that was the size a toddlers pinky finger and it tasted like nothingness. I don't hate this place and I don't think I will get food poisoning so I won't rate this restaurant 1 star, but it barely got 2 stars, especially...

Service: Lovely staff and quick turnarounds after ordering.

Food: Reasonable or large portions depending on what you order. I can always appreciate when the nigiris have a lower rice to fish ratio, and the wasabi inside isn't overpowering. Saba (nigiri and the shioyaki) wasn't too fishy and had great flavor. The takoyaki and kabocha croquettes were piping hot and crispy; the former had at least 1 piece of octopus inside. The sashimi pieces were fairly large, smooth, (according to my parents who have trouble chewing), and had good flavor.

Tea: My one gripe is that their $3 tea was a Stash sachet instead of tea leaves, so it was lacking in aroma. Therefore, I think the price is a tad steep (pun intended).

Overall: I've been here twice (and I normally don't repeat food locations), so it's fair to say I would recommend this restaurant. Sashimi Deluxe is a great deal if you're trying to get your basic sashimi fix. Nigiris are solid, and I recommend them if you're willing to drop a couple more dollars as they are above...

A low-key fun date night spot!

Perhaps it was the good sake or the beer, but I had a fantastic experience here. Not only were the dishes delicious but the service was exceptional. I loved how we were able to get a couple of different dishes and try a little bit of everything. Their appetizers are tapa style, so we ordered 3 apps and 2 rolls. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS AND BROUGHT IN FAIRLY QUICKLY ON A BUSY FRIDAY NIGHT.

All of the dishes were good highlights for me.

My recommendation would be the following:

Unfiltered sake Sapporo or asahi beer (for two)

Shishito fries - mildly spicy Calamari tentacles - chewy and crunchy Agadashi tofu with kimchi and pork - a bit tangy from the kimchi and crunchy with some pork.

Two rolls: Three way and Dungeness crab

Overall, good casual neighborhood place to come for a nice/fun evening. Thanks to the entire staff for making a pretty casual night...
