Update 4/16: bring on the meatballs, bro! Seriously though, please make some. Stopped in today with a coworker and enjoyed fettuccine bolognese and spaghetti con vongole. As usual the hospitality was spot on and food as delicious as ever. Will I ever taste something I don’t enjoy? Doubt it. I’ll be back next month. Meatballs??

Stopped in during a work trip and couldn’t have felt more welcome in this restaurant. As soon as I entered I was greeted and seated at a clean table. Water was provided along with some recommendations. Blankets were also offered as it was a chilly day, nice touch. Truly made me feel like a guest in your home.

I decided on the lasagna (it’s a lasagneria, how could I not?!) Abruzzo was good with a slight kick from the sausage. It was served in a skillet and came with a small soup or salad. I opted for soup which was a tomato/broth based soup with parsley. Also included were bread and house balsamic dressing.

The lasagna was amazing. The pasta is thin so even eating the entire plate I didnt leave feeling heavy or stuffed. Definitely satisfied, but not yet ready to go into a food coma. The marinara was absolutely fantastic and the cheese delicious. I love that they don’t use ricotta here.

I do wish they served meatballs (I’m happy to try the southern Italian style!) and will check back when I visit again in a month. Can’t wait to work my way...

I've been meaning to try Marcella's... pretty much ever since I moved to the neighborhood. This proved to be fairly difficult, given that they're only open during work hours, and, well, I usually work. But! Thanks to a concussion I received a few weeks back, I ended up getting to finally try their oh-so-famous lasagna during one of my rest days.

Coming in after regular lunch hours, I ended up ordering their abruzzo lasagna, which came out piping hot about ten or fifteen minutes later. For a little under $9, you get a pretty solid, filling slice of tasty, crispy lasagna - though they also have pastas and other dishes (along with daily specials) to try as well.

Chatting it up a bit with the owner's son at the end, I found out that everything they have is handmade the day of, which is largely why they limit their hours: they really need the downtime to rest! That said, they have actually been considering expanding into the weekend, but that's still a bit up in the air at the moment.

Accessibility Info

Venue - A fairly tiny space, with maybe 10 tables inside. Accessible, sort of: the tables are hard to seat at because the style of table legs prevents you from scooting in completely, and the shape of the shop means that only a percentage of the tables are actually suitable for wheelchair positioning.

Bathroom - Didn't...

It's seriously special. It's a place that will fill your heart and your stomach with joy. I ordered the mushroom lasagna directly from Gianfranco himself. His eyes were full of light and passion as he told me it was his favorite and that he makes the pasta himself and that it was 6 layers of ultra thin pasta so that I can get all the good stuff while the guilt can stay with them. He told me about the ingredients he used and why he used them. To see that much passion, love, and excitement was almost lunch enough.

You know how you have certain ideas of what a thing should taste like? Like, when I order a dish at a chinese restaurant, there's a specific taste I want in my mouth. This lasagna was dream lasagna flavor. Like- if I had a dream I was eating lasagna, this is what it would taste like. It even had the well done cheese on the sides with a tiiiiiny bit of chewy/crunch. UGH. SO. GOOD. I wanted to finish it, but I also wanted to be able to experience it again soon and I can't afford to keep buying lasagna every damn day, so I had him box it up. I just finished it :(. Oh! Also, they give you some soft, tasty bread with a delicious oil concoction to get...

I had the absolute pleasure of going to Marcella's for the first time not to long ago and yesterday's visit sealed the deal that I will never cheat on Marcella's lasagneria ever again with another Italian Food place. Not only is the food absolutely addictive but so is the overall experience and vibe. Gianfranco (owner) immediately greeted us even though there was a huge rush and constantly made my partner and I feel like family throughout our whole meal. I will say, if you are coming to Marcella's, get ready to eat, and definitely don't limit yourself to just getting a salad. This place will change your mind on what flavors you like so try something new!! I have never enjoyed a Mushroom in my life until now! It is a small taste of Italy and I am so happy I was recommended Marcella's. So here is your recommendation to go get lunch and eat some of the freshest and most mouth watering pasta in San Francisco!!!

I visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch after a morning climbing at Dogpatch Boulders. We got to the restaurant around 1:15pm, and waited around 10-15 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself has very limited seats, about enough for 10-12 people. They technically close at 1:45PM, but we were able to sit to 2PM, so I assume they just stop taking new orders/seating at 1:45PM. My friend ordered their abruzzo lasagna (spicy sausage), and I had the mushroom. They came with a small bread basket, and a side of green salad which was well dressed and flavorful. The lasagna portions came out in individual pans, and were a decent size. The lasagna sheets were fairly thin, and the cheese and sauce used were both flavorful and not very heavy, so it didn't feel like you were weighed down after finishing the portion. All in all, a lovely spot for some good Italian food.
