Terrible experience here the service was bad and unsanitary.. Do not eat here the servers are not worried about your health.. I ordered a sandwich and everything was fine the guy was doing everything correct until he put my bread and meat in the oven.. While waiting on the sandwich to toast the phone started ringing and with the gloves he had on to make my sandwich he answered the phone grabbed pins and post it pads took a order with the pin hung the phone up never changed gloves and went right to touch my sandwich and stick his dirty hand in the lettuce.. I asked him if he was going to change his gloves with an attitude he ignored me and said lettuce and tomato right.. I said so you are not even going to listen to me.. He then says do you want it or not? Very rude I said hell no now that u put germs all over it.. The manager told him to make me another one and instead of merely changing gloves he goes and touches the other loaves of bread with the same dirty gloves with a serious attitude like I'm wrong for not wanting germs on my sandwich.. When he did that I was about to walk out and the owner said he would make my sandwich for me and he did very sanitary. However I will not be returning to eat there and I advice you not to either. There are great sanitary sandwich places in SF like Roxie's and Pop's don't support a place that does not value there customers health. Even Safeway sandwich makers change there gloves constantly.. Don't support sub center west portal little Mexican dude is filthy and nasty in there making sandwiches.....

This sandwich place has been a city favorite for decades. I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 30 years and my kids (now 22 and 25) cite this as one of their favorite sandwich eateries. It's small, with just a few tables (the ambiance for eating is so-so), but the hot sandwiches are quite yummy. I've stood in line with folks who took public transit from across the city to buy several sandwiches that they take back across the city. (But I think they are best eaten while still warm.)

I'm a vegetarian, and I always order the "center vegetarian". They have only one sort of bread, cut to three lengths. ("Center" is the medium length.) This sandwich contains cheese, melted, avocado, cucumber, onion, mayo, mustard, and their "special sauce", which is some kind of vinaigrette. I don't think they have much to offer vegans, since all sandwiches contain cheese and/or meat.

They provide a rack of chips, and a variety of drinks. They also have soup, which I've never tried, and I've never seen anyone else try. They don't offer desserts, but I wish they had cookies or something similar. They make the sandwich in front of you, and you can customize.

I usually eat my sandwich at home but, if the weather is nice, there's a park on top of the metro tunnel and the West Portal library, next door, has a...

Best pastrami sub, ever! My favorite local place for a hot pastrami with cheese, closed down during the pandemic. A friend told me about Submarine Center. They featured a hot pastrami with cheese but with shredded lettuce and tomato. I wasn't sure about putting veggies in with my pastrami and cheese but decided to have their super sized version, delivered, as it was pouring rain. By the time I got done with tax, tip and the Door Dash delivery charge, I was in for $25 and change! Sub Center is not cheap but their quality is top notch. That sub sandwich was awesome and the lettuce and tomato added another set of flavors I didn't know I missed! What also made the sandwich worth every penny, is their secret sauce. Idk what's in it but it sure is mighty tasty! I've been back for pick up, many times since then but occasionally still pay for Door Dash delivery because their pastrami and cheese sub is just...

Literally my favorite sandwich spot in all of the Bay Area. Grew up eating here and now drive from San Jose just to get my sandwich fix. This spot is on west portal right by the underground entrance to muni. Let's level set - it's a tiny place where you pick up food from, don't expect a sit down place. However, their sandwiches are magical. If you can, order ahead since the wait can be long (they used Grubhub and DoorDash). But believe me when I say it is WORTH THE WAIT EVERY TIME! They have a bunch of sub options and even pizza subs. It honestly doesn't matter what you order, it's going to be delicious. Their secret is in the perfectly toasted bread, the perfect sauce combo, and all the condiments. They move fast, so be ready to rattle off your order! Nice people and great sandwiches- what more do you need?

Its been years since i last visited this place, came back until today, ordered a avocado, pastrami, with everything sandwich, not bad, what i do like about this place is the size of their sandwiches, there big! you don’t feel entirely full with half of the sandwich but you’ll be satisfied with half & can save the other half for later. (if you decide to get their biggest sub, forget how they call it.) The 49ers memorabilia on the walls is a plus! love it! This place hasn’t changed since i last visit it so that also is a plus for me! gonna be coming back when i’m in the neighborhood, don’t know why i stop coming to this place in the first place. It seems like it does get busy for lunch but service is quick.

I was out with Luigi Pasconi and Piper Trousdale all night, we hit every joint worth hitting and even forced one to stay open until the day crew arrived. All that Luigi could talk about all night long was getting a Submarine Sandwich from the Submarine Center! Well, we lost Piper's car around midnight, and we have no idea in what part of the city it's in or for that matter ...what city it's in! It was coming up on 10am and Luigi announces..in a deep Italian accent..It's Submarine time, Road da Tortidos! So, we took an Uber and had an Amazing Submarine Sandwich! 5 stars all day long ☆☆☆☆☆
