I went here because I was craving some good biryani and the last time I came here with a friend, it was pretty good. I had asked them to make it spicy but it was still pretty bland when I got the food. But they were kind enough to make me another biryani, this time more spicy. But I decided to get the naan and malai kofta instead. The naan and malai kofta was rich, creamy and deliciously. It was presented very well too. The kofta balls were freshly fried and brought out in a rich gravy. The basil garlic naan was delicious as well- would recommend adding butter to it though. Later the staff were so nice, they offered to give me some biryani for free anyways. This time they made it spicy. I’m Indian and I can take a good level of spice and they made it indian spicy. I believe the spiciness of Indian food is what gives it that intense and rich flavor and I wish it can be translated when making it for people belonging to different countries. I really appreciated the gesture by the staff and enjoyed my food. I had to take away some food as I couldn’t finish it in one sitting.

While in San Francisco area we got hungry for something filling, what better than Indian food. After our search we stumbled upon Roti, looking over the reviews, we decided to stop in for an early dinner. We started with a chai tea and veggie samosas. The appetizer was great, with the mint dip they serve with it. For our entrees we shared Paneer Jalfrezi (vegetarian dish) and Tandoori Chicken Tikka. Sides- Basmati Pulau rice and regular Naan. The tandoori chicken came out on a hot plate, still sizzling, and the Jalfrezi was steaming hot. Everything was so delicious and super filling. The combo between veggie dish and the chicken dish was perfect. We had the right amount of meat and veggies. The restaurant was set up very unique, with the kitchen being open so we can see them cooking. The waitress Mary was very nice and helpful. She took great care of us. After we finished, they boxed up our leftovers for us very neatly, that's a great perk! Highly recommend.

The food was very good and the service was red carpet. We arrived at 5pm on Sunday and did not have reservation and did not have to wait. The server, the owner. He was very good of taking care of our party of 8. We ordered, calamari pretty good. Bengan pakoras, deep fried egg plant, actually pretty good. The bread basket, chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, machi masala, tandoori prawns, mixed seafood and also ordered two rice. Just right for 8 ppl. Sorry, forgotten to take pictures. This is our third times coming here. Must try the machchi masal, salmon very good. One of the best. The 2nd one is chicken tikka masala. The place was super busy and the owner told us no need to rush and we had brought in the cake. If you want good Indian food and great service. You need to try this restaurant. Make reservations if you have a large party. Black coffee was fresh and very good.

I haven't been here in about 9 months and I just confirmed I won't be back for another 9 months if ever. Here lies the problem of ordering take out from this place. About 9 months ago I order some take out, very simple an order of the fish and a veggie dish, when they tell you 1 hour, it's actually 1 1/2 hours. As for today, I order food around 5:10 and got there about 5:45, they told me 30 minutes. I left after 6:30 with my order.

There were a few more people who waited unhappily for their take out.

I was offered a free dish for the wait. I thought about for all of half a second, I didn't want to be stuck there waiting for another 30 minutes for a free dish. Hell No. I opt to take my food and leave.

The naan I brought home wasn't fully cook and had a doughy taste. as was the aloo gobi (the cauliflower is completely crisp as if only just dumped into the curry and pulled out). I will never order the assorted appetizers ever again, that was horrible. The vegetable pakoras were a bit on the burnt side and wasn't even close to being authentic in any way . I'm seriously disappointed today with the food tonight. The tandoori murgh was very spicy (which I like but my daughter couldn't eat) was the only dish that was decent.

I've never had problems with the food when I eat there, but take out is...

The best Indian restaurant in San Francisco and it's not even close.

Firstly, when it comes to the food - it feels light. It's not oily. It's not overly salty. It's tasty and it's authentic. And you leave feeling good. Moreover, you can indulge a little more than you normally would, and you won't feel like you did, which is rare.

Secondly, the drinks are fantastic. I'm a self-proclaimed Old Fashioned connoisseur, enthusiast and expert. Their Tamarind Old Fashioned is the best Old Fashioned I have had. And I have had many!

Thirdly and most importantly, the service and friendliness of the staff is exceptional. We recently moved into Westwood Park and found Roti as we were walking by the area. There is a community vibe to this restaurant. My parents visited me from Dubai and were very impressed. When I told the owner how much I loved their Old Fashioned, he went above and beyond to give me their recipe so I could make them myself at home and even gave me some of their tamarind sauce.

We've had an amazing experience with these folks and have been back twice already and expect to be back a lot more.

Do yourselves a favor! Go to Roti! You will leave feeling great...

The location is great. The food is the opposite. As we entered, the manager/owner demanded vaccination proof, but kept us standing for 5 minutes while he chatted up other customers after their cheque payment. He was extremely grumpy all throughout, and acted as though he was doing us a favor by letting us eat at the establishment. The food quality was embarrassing for an acclaimed Indian restaurant. Ordered the paneer butter masala and murgh masala. The gravies were clearly made from canned tomatoes/ premade sauces and had absolutely no flavor. The chicken was completely white and very bland. The paneer was soft but the gravy for that tasted stale and bland and well. The naans in the bread basket were okay, garlic naan was good. Also ordered chai and mango lassi. The chai was bitter and served cold, and the owner reacted with spite when we told him about it. The mango lassi was okay, but the yoghurt also tasted stale and slightly sour. Only the waitress greeted us with hospitality and actually interacted in a pleasing way. Would not recommend the restaurant overall, it is overpriced and the food quality is...
