So happy this new dessert place opened up right here in San Gabriel. I think Taiyaki might be one of my favorite snacks/desserts that I for some reason forget about. I think that is because you can't really find them everywhere, which just makes this place all the more appreciated.
I tried several of both the sweet & savory Taiyaki and I honestly cannot choose which was my favorite. But I will say the sausage & cheese as well as the custard really are two I can see myself ordering again and again. They were all freshly made so the great crisp and chewy textures are all there. There was also another with sausage and rice cake that I believe the owner said was inspired by her mom. You can hear the passion she has for her business. She was really a pleasure to chat with, and that's why I forgot to get some good pics of all the Taiyaki. Guess I'll have to take some nice pics next time.
Oh and the soft serve they are cranking out at this place are all made from scratch, not from powers. They really looked fake (in a good way) when they came out just because of how nice the soft serve all looked, they know how to get that perfect swirl. For all you Dole Whip fans, they have it here and you can get it swirled with milk which I think makes it taste even better. There was even a seasonal pumpkin spice flavor that had a pleasant and real flavor compared to so many artificial pumpkin flavors I've had in other seasonal items
They are located right on Las Tunas in what used to be LABobatory, right next to Golden Deli. So as you might know there is a parking lot, that is often busy. But if you can't find a spot, you should be able to find some street/residential parking close by.
I definitely recommended checking this place out and I'm happy I don't have to head into the always too-busy Little Tokyo for some...
Read moreIt's a small place that serves a variety of ice cream and cold drinks. It's very similar to Somi Somi in that you choose your ice cream and your filling lined inside the Taiyaki (fish shaped cone). This place differs in that they have more options in terms of toppings (free and unlimited in that you serve yourself) and they also have shakes, slushies, smoothies, and Sso Tteok (savory sausage and rice cake). I ordered the Pineapple Dole Whip and it was good but nothing really different or special. I also ordered the Sso Tteok inside the Taiyaki and it was also okay. Sso Tteok is a Korean street food that is typically served on a stick, like a kabob, alternating between rice cake and sausage with a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. With Love put a spin to it in that they serve it in the Taiyaki. The flavors were good, but I didn't think it worked with the Taiyaki in that there was only one small piece of rice cake and one small halved piece of sausage. The filling was lacking and it was there was too much breading for the lack of filling and sauce. Typically the rice cake balances out the saltiness of the sausage but put inside the bready Taiyaki, it just didn't have enough flavor. One nice thing about this place is that they have a section with toppings that you can help yourself to. The service was really good as well. Overall, I would go back again if I was in the neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way...
Read moreI loved the really creative boba shop that was in this location before covid. There weren't too many things that could have replaced it on the same level of tasty-delicious but With Love soft serve AND Dole Whip? yes please.
They are a brand new business and could use a little tweaking (please offer cones and not just plastic cups with a spoon especially since you literally have a cone in your logo). Also, they are a little rigid. The employee had to talk to another person and then the manager to put two flavors in a cup side by side (verses using the automatic flavor mix. I felt like I was breaking a rule big time and someone's brain was going to pop out of their head when I asked this. -- yes I'd like vanilla and dole whip next to each other with more pineapple than vanilla please). Oh, and I just had the macha-chocolate swirl and it was excellent! It will be hard to pick between the flavor combos, for sure.
I hope they offer the eco-friendly cone option soon. Will be coming...
