Me and my family just moved here from Northern California a few months ago. We love sushi so we we're really excited to try a new sushi spot, we googled places and found Hot Wok on State street and decided to give it a try, the first dish I tried was called the poke the first time it was Amazing, fresh, delicious a few times after that it became a problem. I noticed the fish looked not as fresh as the first few times because there was so much sauce poured on top it didn't look very good. The next time I called to order I made sure to tell the person who answered to please put all my sauce on the side, I reminded her twice she repeated the order yet when my husband brought in my food it was still filled with sauce which once again made it not look fresh. I called and told them it was made wrong again and the lady who answered was rude she told me it was the cooks fault not hers and that I could bring it back and get another which I wasn't prepared to do. Fast forward to this Saturday I decided to try Hot Wok again I called in and a woman answered I gave her the first to items we wanted then I started to ask her for the poke with rice which she proceeded to say "I've been here for 11 years and we've never served that sort of dish" I told her this isn't my first time ordering this ive had it before then I asked her " well what is your description of the poke" her response was " yellow tail, salmon, and a tiny bit of rice" which was exactly what i said 😐 so I placed the order and sent my husband to pick it up. When my husband returned he handed me my food and said "the waitress told me that the cook said your always calling there and complaining" which to be exact ive only called twice so either someone else has the same issue as me or maybe a few people do but either way that was extremely unprofessional!!!! I was a manager at a restaurant for 6 years and this type of customer service would have never been allowed period! I even tried to call and talk to the manager a few times and they refuse to put the manager on the phone, so I decided to write because honestly after my husband told me what was said i couldn't even eat my meal because i didn't know if they had done anything to my food and that's NOT OK!!! I really feel there needs to be changes in customer service before they lose...
Read moreGreeted strangely, a young man asked me if I was there for a pick up. I said I'd like to dine in and he just walks away? A courteous professional would have said, "one moment my co-worker will assist you". Instead he exchanges a look or a few words (not sure) to a woman who then assisted me with placing my drink & appetizer order and politely seating me. My appetizer was the chicken eggs rolls and they were on point, delicious and well plated. The rest of my order included the spider roll and tiger roll. The soft shell crab in the spider roll was party good but most other bites were very fishy tasting. I've had sushi at numerous sushi restaurants and this is the first time I've had a fishy tasting spider roll. And I understand, I'm eating sushi. It's seafood .. but when soft shell crab tastes like fish something is off. The shrimp in and on the tiger roll was good but what caused this meal and my overall experience of this restaurant to get 3 stars from me was the poor quality of the rice. The rice tasted like city water, was thick and close to the consistency of oatmeal. This rice was either poor quality or they used way to much water or both. The decor was cool and the waitresses were genuinely attentive but I don't think I'd give this restaurant a...
Read moreWish I could have a better review. The waitress was nice. It's way to expensive for what they have and offer. They are limited on sushi selections. Basic rolls are priced the same as speciality rolls. They say fashion but I did not seem to notice any fusion with the food. Just because you decorate, and music, and art represents 2 cultures does not make it fusion. But by adding that to the name as a customer you sure do pay for it.
The Mexican roll is basically a California roll. And the poke nachos had no fish. They use crab meat. They say pico de Gallo but it was just tomatoes on top of fried wontons.
The beef chow mein was bland. I got asked if I wanted it spicy. And wasn't told about an upcharge for spicy. There was absolutely no spicy to it. Very little meat.
It's small inside so don't plan a big group. After reading other reviews it makes me wonder what other customers are comparing it to? Certainly not the best. And again especially for the price. I wonder if they offer a discount to give them 5 stars. There is no way this was 5 stars.
Give it a shot. Try it out. Don't go with high expectations. And be prepared to spend a...
