I really wanted to love my experience with Aia’s Sweet Treats, but unfortunately, there were several issues that made it disappointing.
Communication: Communicating via email was a bit confusing. I’m not sure if some of my messages were missed or if there was a misunderstanding, but I found the lack of clear and consistent communication frustrating at times.
Air Conditioning: My event took place in May 2025, on one of the hottest days of the month. I was not informed until I arrived that their air conditioning was broken—despite them knowing about it ahead of time. I’m not sure why they chose not to notify me, but had I known, I could have brought an industrial fan or made other arrangements. They did bring in two small home fans, but they weren’t powerful enough to cool the space with about 20 guests present. The heat made it uncomfortable to enjoy the party, especially since it was a tea party theme—hot tea and melting frosting didn’t mix well. While they did offer a \$200 discount for the inconvenience, I would have much preferred proactive communication.
Cake Decorating Instructor: The cake decorating portion was led by Emily, who came across as curt and disengaged. She didn’t introduce herself, and I only knew her name from prior emails with the owner. Instructions were minimal, and when a guest asked a basic question about how to use the piping bag, the response was brusque. It seemed there was an assumption that everyone had prior cake decorating experience, which wasn’t the case. Unfortunately, we only learned to ice the cake and add a ribbon—there were no sprinkles, no color options, and not much creativity involved. It left both me and my guests underwhelmed and a little embarrassed.
Lost Item: A day after the event, I realized I had left behind a water bottle that held sentimental value to me. I reached out immediately, knowing exactly where I had left it. I was told it wasn’t found, which was disappointing—I can still clearly picture where it was placed, and it’s hard not to feel discouraged by that.
Staff Interaction: Lastly, while the male co-owner was pleasant and helpful, I found the female owner to be somewhat abrasive in her tone and demeanor, which added to the overall discomfort of the experience.
I had hoped to give this business at least four stars, but given all these issues, I can’t say I would recommend it without some serious improvements—especially in the areas of communication, instruction, and...
Read moreAna's Bakery is amazing and the folks there are fantastic! Although I live in NJ and am probably the furthest thing from a regular at the bakery, Annette (who I have spoken with on the phone but never actually met in person) has made me feel like the most valued customer ever. I was coming to San Jose for a birthday and was looking for an affordable, quality bakery. When I called Ana’s, I hit the jackpot. Annette answered the phone and she was so sweet. I told her I needed gluten-free. She said, “no problem.” I mentioned that I also needed dairy-free. Again, she said, “no problem.” Even when I told her that I really only needed a cake big enough for two people, she happily said, “no problem!” And all of this over the phone, with a guy from Jersey, who had never been to the shop before.
Pick-up day arrived and I got to the bakery just as Ana was opening. She brought out the cake that Annette had made for me and it was perfect. Not only was it beautifully decorated and just the right size, it was delicious! If I hadn’t been the person who ordered it, I wouldn’t have believed it was a gluten-free, dairy-free dessert. Yes, it was that good.
This year, I wasn’t able to make it to San Jose, so I called Annette (who remembered me!) and asked if she could deliver a birthday cake. She said she’d be happy to (because she’s amazing!), and set to work on another fantastic creation. Even a last-minute call from me – on the morning it was supposed to be delivered – requesting a new delivery time didn’t faze her. Annette, sweet as always, said not worry and happily accommodated. She sent me pictures of the cake (which was beautiful) and of the box, wrapped in ribbon (also beautiful), beforehand. As delicious as it looked, I’m told that the photos still didn’t do it justice. It was another incredible cake from the most incredible bakery. Annette,...
Read moreI am so saddened to be writing this review but I am left with no other option due to the unacceptable service I have experienced this afternoon. I contacted the bakery in hopes to find out what time my cake would be ready and the immediate response I got back was along the lines of “we don’t tell you what time to pick it up so I don’t know why you thought we would do that for you” keep in mind, my family and I have order over a dozen cakes from Ana over the course of a few years and every time we have had email confirmation stating that the cake is ready for pick up. I then assumed that they closed at 7pm because that is exactly what was on google (she has now updated it following our conversation) and with a condescending laugh she responded “uhh we haven’t closed at 7 in like 3 years mocking tone” she then continues to hang up on me so I call back I’m hopes to get my cake and again, the same rude attitude and condescending voice she was once again no help. She laughed and said well I’ll just keep the cake. I do not understand why she couldn’t update her hours 3 years ago if it was that easy. Like I said, my family and I have been going to Ana for YEARS and have recommended her service to plenty of our family and friends. I am in awe by the service I have experienced today. I never in a million years expected to be treated with such disrespect from a business in which I have don’t nothing but been loyal to over the years. My family and I will no longer be returning, this service is simply unacceptable and I am disgusted by this...
