3.5 stars - Bit pricey for the quality of food which was just OK. Good portion size and good service.
Not very busy for a Friday brunch (11AM) but the patio was full and the interior 2-person seating felt a little cramped. We ordered the California Benedict with country potatoes (no bacon, server was kind enough to offer us a substitution and suggested spinach, asparagus, etc. but we went with extra avocado), the Petaluma Scramble with hashbrowns, and an order of the Belgian waffle.
Belgian waffle - 5 stars! Was reminded of the clear superiority of waffles over pancakes and french toast. Recommend.
California Benedict - 3.5 stars. Needed salt. Hollandaise sauce was watery and a bit tasteless. The English muffin it comes on was delicious and the country potatoes were a surprise hit! Enjoyed that they were grilled with peppers, definitely added a little something. Sadly they were the only item that was adequately salted.
Petaluma Scramble - 3 stars. Hashbrowns were the right kind of crispy but again... under-salted. Scramble had a good amount of veggies but interestingly the Swiss cheese was just layered on top, and had cooled down into a hard sheet I had to cut through to get at the eggs. The salsa that comes with it tasted like nothing so I had to douse the whole thing with a considerable amount of Tobasco.
Coffee - 4 stars. Standard drip coffee fare. They were generous with the refills.
Service - 5 stars. We were acknowledged and seated right away and our server was attentive and friendly. We ordered a second Belgian waffle togo and it came out quick along...
Read moreCircumstances lately have afforded us the opportunity to go out for breakfast. It's an expensive "hobby" but I'm suddenly curious to see who makes the "best" pancakes.
Bill's Cafe has several locations and this was the one we were closest to. I ordered the California omelet, because I could substitute a pancake for toast, while the Mrs ordered the breakfast quesadilla.
I can't speak for the quesadilla but the omelet was delicious. The avocado that topped omelet was fresh and bright green. The accompanying country potatoes were under seasoned (not salty), which allows me to salt them to taste, but still flavorful and cooked well.
The pancakes tasted good. Not overly sweet but with a fluffy texture. One isn't enough, so next time I'm here I think I'll order the pancake combo, with eggs and sausage or bacon, too see how they really stack up.
California just "opened up" the state yesterday by nearly eliminating the mask mandate for fully vaccinated persons. Most of the diners were not wearing masks, however every employee was. The service was prompt and satisfactory, and I was surprised by how quickly our food arrived. Perks of having breakfast/brunch during the weekday instead of the weekend.
Just note than even though the state is back to "100%", restaurant staffing may not be. So be patient and kind to your...
Read moreThe review is not for the food. This is one of my fav breakfast places to eat at in the area. The review is for the bad service we experienced today.
3 of us (2 adults, 1 child) got seated outside after a long wait (30-40 mins), where we asked to be seated where there is shade because of the intense sun and heat. As soon as we sat down we noticed that 2 of the seats had too much sun, so we rearranged the seats to accommodate, but after a few mins it was unbearable and asked to be reseated.
The 2 girls at the reception told us that in order to be seated elsewhere we would have to wait again and be at the bottom of the wait list!! Unbelievable, who says that! We asked for the umbrellas to be moved/tilted which they also could not do. It is extremely inconsiderate and unprofessional to treat customers this way. I guess being popular means they don’t care enough about losing some customers. All we were asking for is be reseated so that we don’t bake in the direct sun.
If we did not have a very hungry 4 yr old, we would have just left. We simply kept huddled to one side away from the table to keep feeding the kid. Extremely disappointed in how we were treated by the two ladies in the front (did not catch their names). I hope you are coached into providing better service, and learn about being considerate and...
