I chose this hotel for two reasons that were critical to me at the time. Its on-line advertisement claimed that one need not pay at the beginning of the stay but could pay into the stay. That was important because I was to have an automatic payment of $4000 deposited into my account two days later but did not have the $1000 due for the entire payment on that day. Second, it advertised itself as a hotel catering to those with disabilities. In both cases, this hotel fails hideously.
My experience checking in was a nightmare. The receptionist, a man with no personality, affect or social skills named Cameron, insisted that I had to have the funds in my account that very minute or he couldn't let me register. (How is that different from paying?) I offered my credit card and driver' license as security until the next day when other arrangements could be made. Still no deal. How about a call to a friend who could give his credit card number over the phone? Only with a complicated set of faxes stoping just short of a notary. So I was to leave. It was midnight. I am an elderly woman in a wheelchair, alone, just trying to check in. And I was being asked to leave the premises!
I finally located a friend who drove to the hotel and put two nights' charges onto her credit card. It was a good thing that she didn't pay for the entire week's stay! I was able to leave after two night's, just about the time that serious ideation about suicide was beginning to take hold.
Bu the disability issue is another thing, more serious and definitely dangerous. First, one would not expect to drive up to a hotel sensitive to the needs of the disabled to find that the entrance to the hotel features several steps. One has to go to the underground garage to enter the hotel through a number of narrow slatted concrete slabs tilted at a 45% degree angle with no side rails! An able-bodied person would use this physical challenge only to train in an Olympic sport or to act out a serious death wish.
The only feature that bespeaks any attention to the needs of disabled people is a shower with a flat floor which allows a whee chair to enter the shower and transfer to a bench for the shower. But what to do with the wheel chair? A toilet designed for the disabled should be elevated, for safety reasons. The Woodcrest built its toilets so that they are at least a half foot shorter than conventional toilets! And half the bedroom, along one wall by one side of the bed, is entirel inaccessible to anyone in a wheel chair.
There is no one to help with luggage. Bathroom features cater to those who are not disabled, not to those who need lower facilities. All of the amenities I've mentioned are routinely provided by hotels which are dedicated to the needs of their handicapped guests. Wodcrest is decidedly not one of those, and to describe itself as such is a brazen act of deception which should be cited by some civil authority not only for false advertising but also for providing dangerous facilities for access to the hotel.
Others have described the down-trodden, old, tired, outdated nature of the place, especially obnoxious for the high prices exacted ($162 during the business week) and I echo all these charges. But Woodcrest isn't just dingy and unappealing. It shows a kind of negligence which should never appear in the hotel business, especially in a hotel which is often rated with four stars! (Who is giving these ratings?) The cold-water handle above the sink came off in my hands. The hot water handle groaned with the sound of an underground explosion every time it was moved. No one should accept such poor conditions, but those with disabilities must protect themselves against dangerous conditions until the appropriate public agencies step in to...
Read moreWalking into the lobby of the hotel, you get an older feel to the establishment. My wife said it reminded her of an old hotel in London - not unpleasant, but clearly a more dated style. The location is excellent, directly next to a variety of stores and immediate access to the highway. I found the staff very attentive and welcoming.
Going up to our room was where we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms appear to be recently renovated and had some nice cabinetry in the bathroom. More importantly, the room and bathroom was incredibly spacious, almost on par with what I would consider a private suite. There is a nice large window to let in natural light from the courtyard, but a set of very dark blackout curtains are available for the late mornings, keeping the room pitch black.
There really was no noise or disturbances to speak of, despite close proximity to the major road and highway, so I’m assuming the rooms are well insulated. No noises from other guests were noted either.
Not sure if it’s a regular occurrence, but the hotel staff put out a COMPLIMENTARY huge welcome basket of snacks and drinks that lasted us well into our 3 day stay! In this economy?! A small but personal touch that we appreciated.
Overall, the hotel is not necessarily cheap, but you definitely get a great experience. I would take this hotel over a traditional hotel chain any day, and look forward to staying again next time I’m...

The room itself was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with a comfortable bed and all the amenities I needed to feel at home. The decor was tasteful and understated, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere that was perfect for winding down after a long day of work or exploring the local area.
One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast that was served each morning. The selection was excellent, with a variety of hot and cold items to choose from, including fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, and bacon. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented, and it was a great way to start my day.
The staff at the Woodcrest Hotel were also incredibly helpful, providing recommendations for local restaurants and attractions and making sure that I had everything I needed to make the most of my stay. They really went above and beyond to ensure that I had a great experience, and it was greatly appreciated.
