5/2023 - REAL VIETNAMESE RICE ROLLS (Bánh Cuốn). This is where you can find authentic rice rolls, made on site and with very reasonable price. I got 1 lb of the rolls with shrimp powder for $7.50/lb. The light fish sauce was provided in a separate container. I will try the rolls with ground pork next time.
First the rice sheets were thin and chewy. I have some kept in the fridge for a week and they tasted fresh once microwaved! The sauce was light not salty and not too sweet. Of course I drank the sauce remaining on the dish at the end…as I always did when enjoying this dish some 60 years ago in Saigon.
At home I added to the rice rolls some Vietnamese ham (chả giò), blanched bean sprouts, fried onions, and basil. Douse everything with the light fish sauce and Voilà! A beautiful, healthy, great tasting authentic Vietnamese dish to enjoy.
Although the dish needs to be completed at home since this store is not a restaurant but a ‘Lò’ (bakery? oven? whatever…) making rice roll only, I now know where to go for a very, very good bánh cuốn 👍😊 You all should give this shop a try so that they can prosper so that I can continue to enjoy my real Vietnamese food—sorry for a rather selfish...
