My family of four stayed for three nights in a ground-level room near the parking lot entrance. We paid a little over $300. Upon entering, we immediately noticed a strong cigarette smell, and there were ashes by the window, which we reported to the front desk. The floor also had quite a bit of debris, so housekeeping had to come back in to clean. While these were disappointing first impressions, the shower had good water pressure, and the toilet worked fine.
Unfortunately, the comfort level wasn't great. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable, the sheets had noticeable stains, and we felt crumbs in the bed. The TV was an older model, not a smart TV, and only had Dish Network, so we were limited to whatever was airing. The pictures on Expedia were a bit misleading—the room didn’t match what was advertised, which left us disappointed.
That being said, the location was convenient for our getaway to Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz, and for the price, the stay was decent overall. The room met our basic needs, though we hoped for a better experience, particularly in terms of cleanliness and comfort.
The breakfast also left a lot to be desired. There were no protein or fruit options, just basic offerings like muffins, juice, corn flakes, toast, and a waffle maker. A little more variety, especially some protein options, would have gone a long way. We walked by the pool, which didn’t look quite like the website photos, but it wasn’t dirty and seemed fine.
We also noticed a few personalized doors with decor and welcome mats, which gave the impression that there are long-term tenants at the property. There were some bystanders wandering around the parking lot at all hours, with a few people sitting in their cars playing loud music or idling their engines for extended periods of time.
Despite these issues, the front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly and responsive to our concerns, which helped make our stay...

The location is convenient, close to key attractions and easy access to public transport, which made exploring the city stress-free.
The room was clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the basic amenities I needed for a relaxing stay. The bed was cozy, ensuring a good night’s sleep, and the room had reliable Wi-Fi and a well-functioning air conditioning system, which I appreciated given the warm weather.
The housekeeping team did a great job maintaining the room each day, and I noticed that the property overall was kept tidy and well-maintained. While it’s not a luxury hotel, it definitely provided excellent value for the price, making it perfect for travelers on a budget or those looking for a simple, pleasant place to stay.
One of the highlights was the complimentary breakfast – it was fresh, satisfying, and a great way to start the day. The staff were also attentive and happy to provide local recommendations, adding a personal touch to the experience.
Overall, Rodeway Inn Hotel in San Jose exceeded my expectations for an affordable stay. I would recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable and convenient hotel option in the area, and I would happily stay...
Read moreWe got in very late and after two other tries ended up at the Rodeway Inn around midnight.
The person working the night shift told me that the room was going to be 130 dollars and when I asked why it was different then online he said it was just tax. When I questioned it he said to just book online. It was a $50 difference.
The room is DISGUSTING!
The carpet was so filthy we didn’t even feel save putting our kids down on the floor to walk. There were beer bottle caps and used tissues under the beds. Sections of the floor were charred black.
The smoke detector was dismantled and put in a drawer.
There was paper shoved in the door latch so people could return without a key to access our room.
The blinds were broken so they were impossible to close so people could see us while we slept.
The chair was falling apart (like huge pieces of leather coming off) and had some sort of sticky substance on the back of it.
All the walkways had large puddles of standing water that smelled like garbage that we had to walk through.
The tv didn’t work at all. Probably because the tv outlet was pulled away from the wall leaving the wires on the inside of the wall exposed.
We have unintentionally stayed in some bad places over the years but this was by far the worst hotel experience we have ever had in 20 years...
