I found this on instagram and decided to give it a try. It opens early. We arrived around 11 am. and it is almost full. The restaurant is not that big. Inside is pretty roomy. We got a seat right away and were asked what we wanted to order. Since it is our first time, we have no clue what to order except we heard the combination dry noodle is the most popular one. We ordered combination dry noodles with half rice noodles and half egg noodles. Next, we ordered a combination porridge and chinese doughnut. The meat for noodles and porridge are the same. We also order pork and shrimp roll. I like the porridge the best even though the noodle is the most popular one. The porridge has balance flavor. The combination dry noodle is also yummy, but I think it has too much dark soy sauce. It comes with bone soup. Soup is good and the meat is tender. If I guess it right they have fish sauce in the soup, but somehow it taste on the sweet side. The roll is good, and it comes with peanut sauce. It is good when mix with hoisin sauce. Hand pulled noodles look like a famous dish, too. Only combination dry noodles and hand pulled noodle dishes picture on the wall, so I assume those are popular ones. Overall, it was a good experience. I wish they are more patience. I feel they just want you to sit , order right a way, finish your dishes, pay, and leave. It...
Read moreI always have the dilemma of either getting the #1 Special Hu Tieu (with soup on the side) and the banh loc xao with an egg on top because they're both so delicious. The #1 is really tasty though there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between the small and the large portions. Both dishes are pretty consistent with how they taste no matter what day or time I go.
The restaurant itself is kind of "meh" really. It's located in an Asian shopping plaza that seems to be pretty run down. Sometimes when you go in, you'll notice tables that haven't been cleared yet (dishes just sitting on empty tables) and that could be off-putting. The staff do not offer the best service: they don't check up on your table or refill your water. The tables and chairs are crammed together as though the owners wanted to maximize as many people in the space as possible, so that means feeling like sardines in a can if you happen to go during a busy time. I would recommend going during the dinner hours as it seems fairly empty during that time compared to lunch.
If they didn't have such tasty food, I doubt that I would really go to this place so my rating is based mainly on the food and why I keep coming back despite...
Read moreBEST NAM VANG NOODLE SOUP IN THE BAY 12/2022 - This soup is not as well known internationally as the Phở but it is as tasty and nutritious. Hủ Tíu Nam Vang means “Noodle Soup of Nam Vang” and was loved all over the very Southern part of Viet Nam. As its name implies this special soup originated from Kampuchia (formerly Cambodia)—a delicious gift to its neighboring country Viet Nam. Nam Vang is Phnom Penh, the capital of Kampuchia. This restaurant was famous in the San Jose area for decades. The clear broth is made mostly with pork bones, the noodles are more chewy than the rice noodle or fresh phở noodles. It’s served with shrimps and thinly sliced pork. The pork bones lend a smooth and light taste to the soup. To know better about Vietnamese food, one has to try and enjoy this soup. It’s definitely different from the Phở and tastes so good. The price is quite average (don’t try to remember the pre-Covid price.) Loved in all of the Southern part of Viet Nam (or Western part of Indochina), I always come to this restaurant for its Nam Vang...
