Good food in a downscale area. Basic decor. Order at the register, they will bring it out.
Not cheap, dinners are around $12, but they have a decent beer selection.
There really isn't a description of the items on the menu, and the young man at the register was unfamiliar with what was in the dishes. I asked a woman who appeared to be in charge what the difference between patstitsio and moussaka was, she replied "what are you allergic to?".
Patstitsio is $8.99 for a slice with a Greek salad side (romaine, a slightly sweet vinegrette, tasty feta, a few Greek olives, lots of thin slices of cucumber). It's one of the cheapest dishes. Moussaka with salad is 10.99.
Many of the dinner plates looked large, with a fair amount of carbs (meat on top of rice). I asked about a smaller dish, as my companion has diabetes and doesn't eat high carb meals. We considered the wraps ($6.99 chicken and pork, 7.99 beef, 10.99 lamb), they are filled with meat and fries. You can make a wrap a "meal" by adding more fries or a salad, plus a soda.
They have a soda fountain and ice tea dispenser, but also a decent selection of drinks in bottles, including sparking ice and vitamin water zero (both sugar-free), and izze sparling juice.
They could use a trash can near the front or right outside, we had used napkins we wanted to toss as we left. They have outdoor seating.
Parking lot is unfinished, the back part as you leave, anyway. The driveway as you exit is unclear, it's easy to drive over the curb if...
Read moreI had an uncontrollable urge for a gyros sandwich and had actually been meaning to try this place out. I'm a Chicago native and grew up spoiled when it came down to amazing gyros. This was ok. Admittedly it was the best gyros I've had out here so far. But overall it still left something to be desired. The restaurant was clean, staff were friendly enough and I've no complaints really. The sandwich was made fresh. The meat was also fresh and even quite tasty. Sliced off the big rotating slab authentic like. But after that... I don't know what happened. 1st off, I've never been to a family owned, authentic Greek/Mediterranean food establishment back home where french fries were actually placed IN the sandwich. And as a standard? No. The tomatoes and onions were a little on the thin & light side and I didn't ask, but I'd almost bet the cucumber sauce (I can't properly spell taziki. I'm sure of it), tasted like a variety that came from a large 1 gallon container or made from a bag of powder mix just ad water and or milk variety. If it was a homemade recipe I'd be surprised. I've a few other independent spots to visit yet in search of my "go to" spot for good authentic gyros in San Jose. This spot wasn't bad really. But for some reason using fries as a topping/filler for the sandwich really kinda killed the...
Read moreSo, I’m finally done with this place. I’m new to the area and have tried this place 6 or 7 times because once they actually get your order right, the food is good. Literally, I’m not exaggerating, every time treat I’ve ordered, my order has been wrong and order something so simple; chicken soluvaki on pita bread with ONLY feta cheese and tatziki sauce, that’s it and yet every time it’s wrong. Sometimes it has lettuce, other times it fries rolled in with the meat and 2 or 3 times out of the 6 or 7, it’s had everything on it (mustard, tomatoes, lettuce etc.) This most recent time, it had feta and mustard, and no tatziki sauce.
The order is literally chicken, feta and tatziki sauce. It’s 3 ingredients that they can’t seem to put together correctly. I don’t know if the guy taking the order doesn’t tell the cooks, or if the cooks just don’t pay attention or care, but I’m done with them. This isn’t a one off, every time it’s been wrong and the order couldn’t be simpler. If they can’t get 3 ingredients right, good luck with something...
