In a city brimming with Mexican food options, Taqueria Tlaquepanque stands head and shoulders above the rest, offering an authentic experience that truly sets it apart. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the genuine heart and soul poured into this establishment. This wasn't just another Mexican meal; it was a culinary journey. For the first time, I ventured into the world of their mole enchiladas, and marvelous doesn't even begin to cover it. The rich, complex flavors of the mole were perfectly balanced, highlighting traditional recipes and skillful execution. Even the simple pleasures were elevated here. The totopos and salsa were utterly addictive – crisp, perfectly salted chips paired with a vibrant and flavorful salsa that kept me reaching for more. And the horchata? It was like a warm hug from within, a sweet and comforting delight that perfectly complemented the meal. What truly impressed me was the service. Our server was incredibly attentive and receptive, always ready with a smile and ensuring our needs were met. Her willingness to offer recommendations without hesitation spoke volumes about the authenticity and pride they have in their food. It's clear they genuinely believe in what they serve. Taqueria Tlaquepanque isn't just a place to eat; it's a taste of true Mexican culinary heritage, a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered and celebrated. I cannot wait for my next visit to San Jose, knowing that a return trip to Taqueria Tlaquepanque is already at the top of my list. I wholeheartedly recommend this taqueria to anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Mexican food experience. You won't be disappointed!

Went on a Sunday for lunch and had to wait a few minutes to be seated since there were already several other families there. Not too busy, but busy enough that unfortunately we weren’t able to get much service after being seated. We were also seated in a corner of the restaurant where the staff didn’t seem to be able to see us easily, and it took a long time to get anyone’s attention for requests. My family member was served the wrong item, but we were able to flag anyone down for over 20 minutes and most of us were almost done with our plates by then. When we were done eating we just needed to-go boxes and the check and we weren’t able to flag anyone down for almost half an hour just so we could leave. Also there was some kind of draft in the building that made us all very cold during the whole meal, and ultimately wasn’t very comfortable. Other than the service, the food was delicious, but ultimately not worth the lack of service for us. Might be better on a day where it’s less busy but I don’t plan on returning to find out.

I ordered their 'Carne en su jugo'. It wasn't all that bad I suppose but not really that good either. It needed more flavor and ingredients. The traditional dish is served with chopped onion and cilantro which was not in the dish. As well as lime. I had to ask for all those things. The chips had no slat and were very oily. The salsa for the cips needed more flavor as well. My cousin ordered a sope of carnitas that he said he really liked. I did try his flautas and they were really good! Not sure what was in the food but it really messed up my stomach. I was in dire need to use the restroom right after. I was unable to use theirs as there was no toilet paper and the bathroom was absolutely disgusting and trash everywhere. It must have been my dish because my cousin was just fine. Oh and good luck with parking!

Service 0/10 Food quality 3/10 Our server took our order and didn't come back to our table until the food was done. I ordered a 7 Mares Caldo and a small Asada taco She never brought out. I mentioned to her that she forgot my taco at the end and she said oh OK I'll get that for you. I said no we are done with everything else my boyfriend ordered a Michelada with a Pacifico beer and she brought him a corona beer Instead we tried to look for the server to switch it out mind you we are not even drinking anything with the food because we're waiting for her to let her know this is the second beer that you bring out that is not Pacifico so after the second one, I'm gonna say something but she was nowhere to be found. I let one of the guys in the front khow hey she mistakenly gave us the wrong beer. The man in the front where you pay was very rude as well. I mentioned about the taco when he says OK well do you want to taco or not? I said no thank you we are getting ready to leave. This is the second beer you guys bring out that's corona not Pacifico Thank you just take it off the tab we were nice enough to pay for the two incorrect beers but not the taco even though the server was wrong for coming up to us and telling us so you guys ordered Pacifico right we said yes ! That's what I gave you I'm like wow how are you going to tell someone that only drinks Pacifico what you did and didn't do. She was super defensive and ruined our night out at that restaurant will not return because of your bad quality service usually when you forget to bring out food or give the incorrect beer especially at the prices you are insane usually they apologize at the very least not tell you, so you want it or not with an attitude so many different restaurants so very similar food Too bad this place is...

This taqueria should be ashamed of its blatant dishonesty and all patrons (new or old) should seriously reconsider dining here.

A group of friends and I went here recently for some chavelas (beer, lime juice, and tequila) and food. On the menu, the price was approx $7.00 for a Super Chavela and we all ordered them - 6 in total. When we got our bill, there were 6 items all charged at $8.64. It's clear this wasn't the individual cost of our food since the food was priced higher and the only other items we ordered were the chavelas. When we asked out waitress about the pricing of the chavelas, she said that the menu pricing was incorrect and wasn't updated. I know this wasn't the first time she's had this question since her face had that exhausted look which indicated she has explained this time and time again.

What kind of business does this? This type of bait-and-switch practice is only present in business which do not respect the customers they serve. What's worse is that, based on the other reviews, this is an issue has been going on a while. How difficult is it to take one night to edit the prices of the menus? Or have some sort of flyer included with the menus? There are plenty of solutions to the problem.

This action alone is indicative of a disregard for the customer and it should deter anyone from spending money. I hope you choose one of the hundred other taquerias in San Jose for your cravings. Mexican restaurants are a seriously a dime a dozen in this area and they probably have better food, pricing, parking, and...
