Tanchito's Restaurant — Restaurant in San Jose

Another visit, and food stays amazing! No inside eating of course(pandemic) outside seating is lite! Live music 🎶 and great scenery. But forget all that! It's all about the food! Little pricey, but being cliche "you pay for what you get". Good food! Pupusas are my favorites, the mixed one. Try just cheese! Rice is amazing! Not like Mexican rice, but really good! Kinda like white rice w/ veggies, taste more better than I can describe the rice. Chicharron is great too! Love the platano! I can never cook them the way they do. My dad can but I'll just buy em here. If you dine here, grab a Regia beer🍺! Big and quenches your thirst. Can't find those beers anywhere. I tried looking. Let me know if you know where I can buy em to take home. Right now, the restaurant lets you(pandemic). Just go already!

Looks like they fixed it up hired some new people. Serves hard alcohol now. & looks like indoor eating is allowed. Had stage for live music 🎶 indoors. They accommodated me pretty well. Looks like things are changing for the better. The remodeled & looks even better!

I keep going back for...

I used to like this place, but I am not going back. The food was just OK, and nothing like the previous times we had been there.

As I was paying the bill, the person behind the counter read the dishes I was being charged for out loud and everything appeared to be in order. She told me the total and I paid with my card, then the machine prompted for a tip and I left a 20% tip. I got a copy of the receipt, put it in my pocket and left the place.

Later that night I had remarked to my wife that I thought the total price was a bit high and when I checked the receipt I found they had included a 16% service charge.

I dislike places that automatically include a "service charge" without letting people know it is being included in the bill. Moreover, the machine doesn't even state "additonal gratuity", just the normal tip prompt.

It's really good pupusas! They could be great, but they lack good customer service. Very slow service sometimes. Flies everywhere because they keep the doors open to let in air. They need more employees and they need to work on customer service and time management and organization. Waiters always forget orders when you go pay. They have to ask you what you ordered.

Again their pupusas are amazing, they could have a really good business if they knew how to manage it!

That is why they get two stars, love their pupusas, not so much their service.
