La Cantina Karaoke Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in San Juan

This was my first visit since they moved to the new location. I was very excited after a few months of my last visit (on their old location). Let me review each situation:

PARKING Although on their original location, parking was scarce. At least, they had security, and it was very well illuminated. On this new location, they have more parking, but no security and no illumination. It means, park at your own risk in the dark and with no safety.

ATMOSPHERE Basically, the restaurant space is significantly smaller than their last location, meaning almost no seating areas for large groups, unless you call ahead of time to reserve. As walk-ins, we asked for a table of 5-6, and they told us the only available table was for 4... it was a take it leave it kind of situation. So the rest of my friends sat literally outside of the restaurant in the hallway.

The karaoke and overall atmosphere were dull. They had better organization, space, and cultural ambiance in their first location. This location has hardly no street exposure. The decor, table placement, and layout design are messy and cluttered for such a small space.

They have tables going out to the hallway of the building with little or no air-conditioning.

SERVICE Sadly, service has gotten worse. Besides the long wait times, a few of the servers may need to be retrained in customer service and politeness. Our particular server was rude and wasn't a help when we asked questions.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE Our food was okay, I would have plated and garnished the food neater and more appealing. The flavor and amount of food were average for the price range.

The drinks we had were overpriced compared to other restaurants, which offers better drinks for at least a buck or two less.

Overall... is sad to say I won't be back. This place has lost their original essence, which made them so popular. All I have to say...

The establishment itself is nice. The issue lies with the management here. I came last night to see a drag show. Apparently you’re “not allowed in” unless you are seated at a table. I sat outside waiting to be seated and helped for 2 HOURS. I finally inside myself to see what was going on and somehow magically there was a table. I was asked to be seated and told them that I was told by the bouncer I was okay to sit without the rest of my group, because I told them to come when I found seating. The waiter kept coming over ever two minutes asking if my party was there yet. When clearly I stated they were in their way. He then threatened to kick me out if they didn’t arrive in 8 minutes. Mi primera vez visitando el lugar. Espero 30 minutos por mi orden de unos “Chicharrones de pollo” vienen a donde mi a dejarme saber que se les habían acabado después de la espera. Les pido que otra opción hay,no me dan opción. Pregunto si puedo pedir unas alitas para reemplazar y me dicen que si. Pasó la noche,se acabo el drag show. Veia como seguian saliendo los platos para las mesas que ya estaban consumiendo pero para mi nada que ver. Cuando llega la hora de irme nunca se me dió la comida ni hubo un acercamiento para aunque sea devolverme el dinero. Tuve que volver a hacer la mega fila solamente para pedir mi dinero de vuelta ,con todo y eso me lo devuelven con una mala actitud. Pésimo servicio y que pena porque soy de la comunidad y fui con intención de apoyar lo local y el arte del drag pero no vuelvo a pisar el lugar.

My first time visiting the place. I waited 30 minutes for my order of some “chicharrones de pollo” and they came to me to let me know that they had run out after the wait. I ask them what other option there is, they don't give me a choice. I ask if I can order some wings to replace and they say yes. The night passed, the drag show was over. I saw how the dishes continued to come out to the tables that were already eating but for me it had nothing to do with it. When it was time to leave, I was never given food nor was there any approach to even return my money. I had to stand in line again just to ask for my money back, yet they returned it to me with a bad attitude.
