OK. So, today was our 3rd meal here, as Mark's boys work in the area and we hope to make it a little hang out for breakfast/lunch once in awhile. Great atmosphere. The Farmhouse breakfast Mark had before was quite good and we appreciate that the restaurant utilizes local growers. I've tried the meat pie (?) that comes with a nice side salad. Very nice. However, as retirees, we literally have to count our pennies to afford coming here. It's a little too high priced in our humble opinion and compared to other great spots in SLO area. Today, Mark tried the Farmhouse burger, and he would not order it again. We commented to our server that it was quite small, (I actually thought it was a child's plate) with un-noticeable cheese and no lettuce or tomato, the onions weren't grilled or carmelized, and the seasoning was blah. Very plain. Mark actually said he couldn't taste the difference between the meat and the bread, it was so dry. For $16, we expected something along the lines of Eureka or Tahoe Joe's which each serve a memorable burger. Very disappointed. I had the shrimp roll, at our server's suggestion, and it looked impressive & tasty - but so much creaminess that the bread fell apart quickly. It was messy but nice, yet needed something, like some greenhouse tomato or pickle, something with a tad more taste to make the shrimp flavor 'pop' and enhance their sweetness. Bland seasoning. For $22, can't see me ordering that again either, even tho' I pretty much liked it. The watercress was a nice touch, but not flavorful. A little aesthetic greenery. We both agreed the fries were the highlight of our meals - perfectly seasoned, not greasy. I think it would be great if the restaurant might consider offering a few senior plates. We could come more often and try more things. We definitely enjoy your team and the atmosphere. I'm sorry we haven't hit on a favorite dish just yet. Fingers crossed. We want to support you guys. I can tell alot of effort goes into pleasing your customers - for our personal taste and wallets tho', just needs some tweaking....
Read moreI have visited the place a few times and although the food was good it was a little odd in the experience. The waitress or food server that brings your food nearly scolded me when I went to get my own silverware but pointed out the beverage machine when I asked if I could get the soda I ordered. Prices are very high for breakfast and it just seemed like a lot off”unused “ space. Lots of emptiness for the most past. Loved the menus in the mailbox and the decor. The big truck and rotary phones are cute. I just couldn’t figure out their purpose. Lots of eclectic things in one place left me kinda confused. I’d go back for ice cream or coffee but sent about 60 for breakfast for two and the food , while tasty, was a very small portion and I left hungry. I don’t think I would have been as disappointed if I didn’t have to hear one of the cooks recite his entire resume to some guests who were blatantly trying to have a conversation privately at the bar. There’s a certain arrogance with slot of cooks or chefs , as they call themselves. But this guy was really full of himself and that just started it all off with a bad taste...
Read moreMy husband and I eat out frequently and feel like we have a “lay of the land” as far as the restaurant scene goes in SLO. We tried Farmhouse a couple of days ago and were super pleased with our experience. At first I was wondering if the quality of their food would match their farmhouse branding which was well done but something you see a lot of these days. I was watching. Then the food came. Wow. My husband and I both agreed that it’s the best we’ve had in SLO. Very unique, fresh, flavorful and creative. The charred spring pea dish was by far my favorite. A highlight was their cultured butter with brioche, the butter served soft and drizzled with some kind of yummy oil then sprinkled with little, purple blossoms. Get out!! Sooo flavorful. We spent some time talking to the executive chef’s wife who was helping run the show and she was lovely. Our waitress, Jessica, was a delight as well, both ladies sharing the excitement of their new venture with us. We left feeling happy that such a top notch place has opened its doors. We’re looking forward to seeing...
