Sometimes you must watch out for the die hard reviews. It is perfectly understandable why locals might want to exalt a favorite place, one never knows who is closely connected with the establishment. The thing is that when you go and see a 5 Star rating, which basically means excellent, one is tempted to immediately try the place. Sometimes you may end up misguided by reviews that praised a place, and when you try it you find out that it was not 5 Stars. Excellent is a pretty tall order, and to be excellent, like the word says, you must excel. Enter Rocco's Pizza Deli in San Marcos, CA, with almost a perfect score. We are not from San Marcos, CA. We have eaten all around the world food: Spanish, Peruvian, Mexican, Italian, French, Cuban, etc, etc. This is not a superior pizza in culinary terms. Our order: The Giant Pizza, almost $25. Huge in size. We had the Meat Lover's which consists of Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham and Ground Beef. 24 inches, truly large. The pizza came promptly and delivered to our hotel by what appeared to be a true Italian. Very large slices, and the dough acceptable but not to die for. Toppings, with exception of the marinara sauce, skimpy. Light toppings all around. One could not discern among the choices. They say they make their own sausage, but it was impossible to tell where it was and how it tasted. All flavors melted into one. Not an exceptional 5 Stars pizza. Very generous with the sauce to where it was too much.3.5 Stars at the most. Just a big pie that had no special qualifications to count as a top contender worldwide for the pizza of the year. Price was fair, and this place throws in a six pack of soda (arrived very cold, yummy!), so in that department they are outside the norm. We felt it was a generous order. We were overpowered by the size since we were only 3 but could not resist ordering the giant. Also we asked for their home made Cannoli and it was a disappointment for sure. Nothing to write home about, that is for sure. Cost $2.50, filled with some kind of ricotta cheese? Really a turn off. 1.5 Stars. We have already been in a couple of nice places in San Marcos, so good food exists without a doubt, but this place is definitely over rated with all due respect. 3.5 Stars...
Read moreI had a bad experience with my first visit and my last visit at this Rocco’s Pizza Deli. Linda and her husband Rocco ignored my presence when I walked inside their restaurant last Friday on June 2, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. This is the first time I received really bad customer service from a restaurant. I have always received great customer service from these restaurant owners in my hometown in Oceanside, CA. I was in San Marcos, CA that day because I had a doctors appointment at this medical office that was 2 blocks away from this restaurant. I deserved to be treated with respect and kindness but all I received was meanness and rude behavior from Linda and Rocco. These people are ignorant to operate their business in this way. Because great customer service is very important especially to a restaurant business. Without customers your going out of business soon. I was very angry and disappointed that I was mistreated by these business owners. I was hungry and I wanted to go to Starbucks Coffee Shop but it was too far away because I walked with my cane and I couldn’t walk anymore because my legs were sore and in pain. I still ordered one Turkey Sandwich on a submarine roll with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and mayonnaise and mustard. I was charged $6.00 by Linda. Then I bought a bag of potato chips and one bottle of water. Linda charged me $3.00 more so my total bill was $9.05. I paid my bill with my credit card account. I ate this Turkey Sandwich with my chips and this water outside after my doctors appointment was done on a picnic table at the end of this Quick Care Medical Center. This Turkey Sandwich tasted good . It was just this really poor customer service I had with Linda and Rocco that I made the decision to never go back and spend my money there again. I don’t care if your food tastes good because if there business owners treat me with no respect and are mean to me I refuse to eat there and I am not going to spend my money at their restaurant when I have a lot of other places to eat out at in...
Read moreMy experience at this Rocco’s Pizza Deli could have been a much better experience for me if the business owners Rocco and his wife Linda appreciated my business. I walked inside their restaurant last Friday on June 2, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. and Linda and her husband Rocco were taking a break because I saw no customers were inside their dining area eating. I was their only customer inside their restaurant at that time. Linda and Rocco was very rude to me snd they both ignored me. They just stared at me but said nothing to me at all. This is inappropriate behavior to treat me a new customer badly, when I was charged $9.05 from Linda and I charged my Turkey Sandwich with my credit card in also buying a bag of potato chips and I bought one small bottle of water. I read on Yelp theur business has a lot of their customers complaining about these business owners giving them poor customer service and their pizza orders are wrong sometimes and Linda refuses to give one customer a refund or make a new pizza for this one woman who spent $60 to have her large pizza remade because these people Linda and Rocco got their order wrong. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 5 years that I have been a reviewer as a local Guide for over this GoogleMaps Review Website. I decided it’s my last visit to this restaurant. I deserved to be treated with respect and dignity. But I was...
