when i walked in this afternoon (041217) around 1350, i was greeted by a young woman, black hair, black eye glasses, who spoke English with a very thick accent making ordering off the wall frustrating. wall menu was extensive.
my visit to this establishment was my first.
i settled for the combo plate & a bottle of water, charged $18.53, and handed red table pennant 3.
after waiting several mins, i was brought a plate accompanied with 4 small slices of flatbread (flour tortilla?). plate contained 4 meats, salad and a scoop of bouillon flavor enhanced rice. portions were puny in my opinion. salad took up half the plate. pink dressing served in a plastic shot cup.
don't get me wrong, chow was good, but portions did not reflect $18.53 price point, not by a long shot.
bread lasted 30 sec. meat lasted about a min.
no table follow up, either, which is not the way you develop customers. how does one order more bread when there is no table follow up?
sadly there was no, yup, you are reading this correctly, hummus. none. not one teaspoon of hummus. a combo plate and no hummus?
a chum asked if i would return. not likely. and i certainly would not make a special trip to eat here.
would i recommend? nope.
by the way,...

My first visit was great. Ordered a platter and it was prepared in time. Food wasn't as good as Taste-in in Burlingame but they were open late on Sunday.
The second time I took my gf. I specifically asked for vegetarian recommendations. We ordered a bunch of items. I asked about a side of baked eggplant.
When the dishes arrive. I was horrified to notice that baked eggplant was an entree with oily, half burnt beef. I went up to the counter to let the guy at the counter know that they had goofed up the order. He simply smiled and said that's our baked eggplant. You ordered it. We can't do anything about it.
In any other restaurant, you would've expected them to fix the goofup. Would you forcibly serve gluten to a celiac patient or dairy to someone allergic to dairy? When We asked for no meat, we were served horrible rotten meat.
I would've forgiven them if the attitude of the guy behind the counter was better. I do understand sometimes you have off days but pissing off a customer and being rude is simply unacceptable.
Give it a miss. There are far too many restaurants with better food and service that deserve your...
Read moreI used to LOVE this place. I have been going here weekly for The Falafel w/salad, it was my staple since they opened. But sadly since they changed counter help the quality I get has gone downhill.
Since the owners is no longer the counter help the current guy (balding bearded) always charges me a different amount for the same salad w/falafel, usually an even dollar amount, sometimes its 14 othertimes its 12 once it was 17 and I had to ask, then he corrected himself, rang me up and it was the usual , he never usually rings me up and I generally no longer get a receipt.
Being in the restaurant/bar industry for over 25 years Ive seen this many many times, basically he is stealing from the register.
Now I dont mind if he skims the till, its not my place, but constantly getting cold stale falafel, bottom of the drawer lettuce, while greeted with a smile, well it is starting to really bother me.
The owner needs to be present in his establishment or else hire more trustworthy people. Im sad that this has happened because it has had the most spectacular food, but sadly, that is...
