I love this place. I haven't gone for drinks and late night bar type fun yet, so this review is purely for the food. I've really only tried a couple things from the menu, onion rings, and Fish Bites Appetizer. The onion rings were very good. I would rate them much higher than a typical Applebee's type restaurant. The fish bites are on a whole different level. They are basically your traditional fish and chips type of breaded cod, but as an appetizer, it's just the fish. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and then a late night snack, it's that good. The fish is very tender, soft, and juicy. It practically melts in your mouth - I'm not exaggerating. If I had to find something negative about it, a could of times the cod was slightly less favorable than the other times I ordered it, but really only slightly. And the tartar sauce they serve with it is so good that it didn't even matter. If this was somehow a healthy dish, I would consider this at every meal. Obviously deep fried anything isn't good for you so I limit myself, but taste & quality are AMAZING.

THE SWINGING DOOR: I knew this place was there (pretty close to where I live) for a long time, but for some reason, it took me years to pop in. Don't make the same mistake I did. TRY THIS PLACE OUT. The food is also reasonably priced. Not sure about the drinks cuz I haven't partaken yet. I'll update this...

Stopped by early one evening, hoping that the fish 'n' chips was as good as I have heard over the years. Being well off our own beaten path of local haunts, it has taken awhile to make an effort to stop. But my GF and I are so glad we did.

We got the fish 'n' chips to go. First, the goodies- everything we needed was packed into the bag: salt, pepper, malt vinegar, lemon wedges, tartar sauce, ketchup, a really sturdy plastic fork (YES!, really!!), and napkins.

Second, the food- this fish was simply stellar!! It was fresh, not frozen, judging purely by how easily the flesh flaked off with the slightest touch of your fork! Heavenly! The fries were done a uniform medium, though I am sure they would happily make them a bit crunchier if you prefer. If you need to address your cole slaw addiction, it'll cost you another buck per serving, but the slaw is really solid, though perhaps a bit sweeter than most.

Third, the staff was so pleasant, accommodating, and helpful. We could not appreciate them any more than we do. One of them is even a DKMs fan, with her own cocktail creation named after the Dropkick's song Rose Tattoo. Please try one when you stop by!

To sum it up, this is the best fish 'n' chips we have found in San Mateo County, and we will be back the next time we have that f 'n' c...

I came here on a Sunday afternoon and I’m not sure if they just opened, It was 3:30 PM ordered two double tequila and pineapple drinks. Never expect to get a strong drink from this place as they have an electronic device on the top of the bottles preventing the bartender from giving you anything more than a shot or less in your drink at $24 a cocktail I will be taking my dollars somewhere else, no wonder the bar is empty and destined to be closed if they carry on with this price gouging of customers. With that said, the lady serving was very nice and explained it was nothing to do with her and it was management to have implemented this way of serving drinks as she gets a text message and not a very nice one if she pours over, there’s plenty of bars in the city that would gladly take your money and give you a nice drink and decent pour! on top of that, the pineapple juice came out of a squirt gun they have for mixers. at that price, how hard could it be to crack open a can of dole pineapple juice and at least give real pineapple juice. Screw this place don’t waste your time. Also had the food here in the past and it’s absolute garbage. before you look at all the five star reviews and four-star reviews, they are from a year to four years ago. This place is obviously gone...

Remember your first visit to a pub in England or Ireland? The Swinging Door brings back all that feeling and more. It's been around a long while (I still call it the Prince of Wales). They were the first foodies with the incredibly hot Habanero burger. I got a bumper sticker for finishing one. And felt the effects for a couple days. Let's just say warmth. The back patio gives off a different, hidden fort, tropical vibe compared to the traditional inside. Both are great. Grab some malt vinegar for your chips, a pint and a burger and enjoy this pub. Right now!

Came here with a small group on a Friday night to see their "Dueling Piano" performers. Don't come expecting pitch-perfect performances, but they were loud and entertaining! Also the bartender does not skim on the booze... I had to stop sipping mine from how strong it is. Most people would probably appreciate that though lol. One thing is I wish there is a parking lot we can use. I was able to find street parking across the street, but if I had come any later it'll probably be difficult to find.

Tables and the bar are dirty. The bartender never wiped anything down during my visit. The freezer door in the kitchen is so dirty and gross. The cook is touching that, then touching your food. Nobody asked if our food was good or if we needed anything else. The fish was good. The hot ketchup they used to serve is now ketchup mixed with BBQ sauce (gross). The place has gone down hill since last I visited. I won’t be coming back.
