I should have learned my lesson about restaurants with grass walls but here I go again. My partner and I went around 530pm, shortly after opening to place an order to go. The place was empty. We were the only patrons so far. We ordered are food fairly quickly and waited. We waited, and waited some more. We didn't end up leaving until 647. We only ordered two entress, glazed salmon with cabbage and yams and turkey wings with Mac and cheese and greens. The wait wouldn't have been so bad if the customer service was better. Very rude, unapproachable, and unfriendly bartender. If I as a patron am just asking basic questions such as how long has this establishment been here and popular drinks or food and it is like you are being bothered then it really makes for a miserable experience. Especially when the place was empty for a majority of the time we were there. Around the 35 min mark another person arrived and ordered. Why did they get their food before we did and they ordered way more stuff. What made it so bad is the bartender brought his meal to us to take and we had to explain that was his. She finally went and asked the kitchen what was taking so long....apparently some salmon. Customer service focus would have atleast said lemme offer these people a drink while they waited. But again it seemed like she didn't want to be bothered with us. Let's get down to the food. One phrase NOT IT. The mac and cheese tasted like a Velveeta roux that made everyone who tried it gag. The greens were was over cooked and not seasoned. The cabbage was flavored weird and tasted old. The yams were not good and tasted canned with boatloads of brown sugar on it. None of the sides were good or seasoned well. The cornbread had no butter, no honey and was slightly burnt. The salmon was juicy and the sauce on it wasn't bad but it just wasn't good either. The turkey was dry. It was seasoned and dry. It all looked good on observation but none of this was. I do want to mention that the food we got looked way different from other people who gave this place five stars posted. Maybe their quality has tremendously gone down hill. ALSO, NONE OF THIS WAS SOULFOOD.

Overall I would give this restaurant 4 stars. I was a bit worried when I was waiting for the food and looking through other people’s reviews on here. But I’m glad it didn’t leavešŸ˜‚

The service wasn’t great to be honest. The lady who served us was nice but kind of sarcastic also and spent a decent amount of time talking to a table of guys rather than taking our check by the time we were about to leave. She did however make sure that we had what we needed some of the time. There was another lady serving the table next to us, and she seemed soooo much friendlier and even made sure we had what we needed also when she walked past our table.

The atmosphere was about a 3/5. There wasn’t a lot of people when we went but by the time we left there were a few tables being served. The inside looked like it would have a better late night crowd and less business in the afternoons. It was clean enough but the furniture was a bit aged as well. Decor wasn’t much to brag about.

Now for the food. Our table ordered a quite a bit of food and we kind of shared so we could taste the majority. All of the food except the seasoned rice was really good. About an 7.5-8 out of 10. I saw a review that they had velveeta Mac n cheese and they definitely did not! The macaroni was pretty good! I also saw some reviews saying the food was super salty. It was not that either! I could however see why someone would say that if they don’t use salt often or have to watch their sodium. If you’re used to soul food, it was a normal amount of salt. You definitely didn’t need to add your own salt like you do at some restaurants and if they had used any more salt it would have been too much. The caabage and greens were both really good! The yams were good, the cornbread was alittle dry but still overall really good! The wings were also really tasty. The food was alittle expensive for the portions but so is most food in Atlanta so it is what it is.

If you go, get the Turkey wings!!!! They were delicious and the gravy that came with them was so good!!! I’ll be coming again but for to go orders only and will definitely be getting turkey wings. They were tender and flavorful! It came with cornbread. I’d say get the Mac n the sweet potatoes and add a side of greens or cabbage. Both were yummy.

Gratuity is automatic 18% on all orders...

I like to start with the cons so we end on a positive note(s). I had an overall good experience just little things I feel they can do that’s a learning curve & not necessary for me to put a negative review/score

I came from Riverdale to eat here so of course ATL traffic it’s about a 45min ish drive. Wasn’t bad FOR ME, everything in Atlanta at least 30min away anyways šŸ˜‚

Cons: No drink menu. This is what I had the most issue with. I do not like when there’s no price transparency. Because 4 mimosas being $50 seems a little obsurd to me. I also don’t believe in check adjustments cause I drank every single one lol. It would just be better to know these things upfront then getting a very unpleasant surprise at the time of the bill. I got 1 entree & 4 mimosas, that was $85

Piggy backing off 1, I seemingly went for brunch but brunch was over but nobody said that so I pretty much had to guess that from that prices I was charged on my check. Having specific posted hours for specials & menus for all offered items will help quell confusion like this. Probably the least important but I would like to see taller chairs added at the bar. It’s a little uncomfortable

PROS: GREAT atmosphere! I was rush greeted when I walked in. EVERYBODY greeted me with a genuine smile (little things like that make a world of difference in making you feel belonged) DJ plays GREAT music from the 90s to now and it’s not offensively loud that you can’t hear ppl. It’s an enjoyable volume that elevates the experience vs diminishing it. It still feels like a restaurant & not a pseudo club It was VERY clean!!! Bathrooms, floor, bar- I loved that! Usually men’s rooms are sick šŸ˜‚ so this was super pleasant. THE FOOOOOD!!! Baby outside of Big Daddy’s original this is hands down the best soul food I’ve had while living in ATL I had Turkey wings, cabbage, & collards. I could literally pull the bones out. It was so flavorful. Somebody made that food with so much...
