[Time & Date of visit]: Various weekend nights
[Location/Ambiance]: The restaurant has an illusion of making you think the front patio and bar area with various high tables scattered that that's all of the restaurant. I think it further adds to that image as the hostess booth is hidden behind the short front wall. The main dining room is spacious as tables for 4 as well as the long running bench seat is stretched along the wall opposite of the sushi chef's. Nights can vary as for noise level, there may be times where it's mid range, other times there's a birthday party going or a large family gathering amping up the noise level. Dress code is casual, most people in suits just got of work late.
[Service]: Good to great. Some servers have been excellent through the whole entire meal with attentiveness, others are just good. Though if you are sharing a server who's also serving a large group, that could make for longer wait times on certain things.
[Food Highlights]:
duck with jalapeno salsa - I have a love- hate thing with the way this dish is served. It comes in a small (clay?) oven type pot with still-warm charcoal keeping the duck warm and providing more of the smoky taste. What sucks is dropping a small piece of the duck in the inlets of the grill or spilling the salsa akin to pico de gayo. Trust me just use a fork. - Worth a try, but small portions just enough for 2-3.
Scallops - sashimi style - Tender, fresh. Not really my usual order but my bestests favorite. I believe she approves.
Tempura Udon - Serving size is borderline between medium and large. Lots of broth with about 2/3rds of udon noodles to accompany it. Served separate, is the plate of three large vegetable tempura. I would suggest not to dunk all three unless you like yours a bit soggy. - ehh... ok.
12 & 69 sushi rolls - This will throw you off due to the aioli sauces on each piece of roll at first glance. Centered atop is a bed of seaweed salad, enough for a craving if you were going to order it as an appetizer. Good portion of salmon. Pretty tasty, with out being overly spicy, more like a mild. - Pretty tasty, worth a try.
Echo Bunny - I'm a big fan of eel, and this hit the spot. 5 pieces but pretty filling. I tasted more of the eel than the soft shell crab it self. Glad the chef went easy with the eel sauce as to not over power everything. If you are with someone who can't stomach raw stuff, this is pretty good for them to order.
{Summary}: Sushi is usually very fresh tasting, though some other cooked dishes can be off point. Small plates are more like tapas size. Weekday nights are hardly ever any wait times, though service can be a little wavering at times....
Read moreI have been a regular guest at Sushi Nami since the only one in existence was in Alpharetta. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner. I was very happy when "Too" opened in Sandy Springs, although the menu is very limited and caters to sushi lovers, mainly. Generally, I have had a good experience with Sushi over the years, although the prices are getting a bit out of control. The more concerning part is the service, which has consistently declined. Last night was clearly the worst. The waitress, Pam, clearly miscommunicated my wishes about my drink order to the bartender (twice) and did not truthfully answer my questions when I asked why it tasted wrong. I moved to the bar and asked the bartender, Trian, to make the drink in front of me, so I could see what was wrong. It was quickly very clear. I do not appreciate being deceived. I do not appreciate an attempt to charge me premium prices for much lower than premium ingredients. Speaking to the person who claimed to be the "manager", Devin, but hardly was performing as one, was disappointing, at best. He was much more interested in yacking it up at the bar with the crowd. Unfortunately, the bar clientele has also changed. No longer the mature, sophisticated, professionals, but rather the young, self-entitled, and rude are now providing the ambiance. I hope the owner begins to spend more time at this location and brings back some of its previous charms. For the cost and the service, there are more desirable places in Sandy Springs. It is sad to see the decline at what used to be one of my favorite...
Read moreI am a regular at this restaurant and I very much enjoy this facility. I happened to look At the reviews just now and saw one of the most recent reviews and saw a women speak of an encounter with a server named Pam and devin. Although I do not know Pam I know the bartenders very well. I happened to be there that night the encounterment happened and I cannot sit here and allow for false accusations to discredit a lovely restaurant. I saw an older lady continuously harras the women server who I’m guessing was “Pam” while she was catering to other tables. This young lady “Pam” did not say a word to this older lady yet she continued to call for her attention saying “you just lost $30 because of the bartenders”. She continued to call Pam’s attention saying the same thing as to rile up Pam or get a reaction from her. The young lady did NOT disrespect her at any point but gave the women a smile. She continued to egg on Pam and spoke very violently to her until a bystander told her to leave Pam alone because she was trying to attend to her other tables. I don’t usually leave reviews but I cannot allow someone to falsely leave reviews especially about GOOD people and a GREAT resturant to a place that has a bunch of regulars because their service is outstanding and the food is amazing. This place is amazing and i hope that one bad review does not prevent new costumers from seeing that...
