I found this place on Yelp and was looking for a breakfast place since I was in the area for my boyfriend and I to eat. I don’t normally do American breakfast but was craving for it. So when we walked in, I can tell that this place is for the locals that lives in the area, and you will noticed that this place is decorated with John Wayne all over and it's really cute inside, I totally did not expect it.
We got seated immediately, my boyfriend ordered the American breakfast (two eggs your way, bacon or sausage - he picked bacon, potatoes or hash browns - he picked hash browns extra crispy and choice of bread - white toast) and I ordered the Denver omelette and it comes with a slice of a grilled pineapple on top, which was different, but turned out really good. The omelette was good! I ordered that with hash browns, extra crispy because why not?! And you have a choice for potatoes or hash browns. It comes with your choice of toast, I got wheat. The waiter offered their house salsa, so i got some on the side with my omelette. After I ordered, I saw a sign on my table, that was flopped over, saying I can replace my toast for their something else (carbs with delicious sugar hahaha) which I don't remember what it was (sorry Yelp). But I enjoyed my breakfast very much.
The waiter was nice and the service was great until we wanted our check, we waited at least 20 minutes (after we ate) and for our waiter and he didn't even over glance at us and I wanted to take my omelette home but waiting for a box could be a longer wait, so I gave up my omelette and went to the cashier and paid without the check.
This would've been easily a 5 star but the lack of service after getting my meal, took off 1 star.
I'll probably come back again another time, because there are so many breakfast place that I want to try in Orange County. See...
Read moreI found this place while dining at another. From the outside, it's just a nondescript diner with a cool name. On the inside, it's about the same, but the cowboy motif is kinda cool.
The booths are old school 50's style, but these are comfortable to sit in. The service is fast fast fast. I was there for breakfast, and no sooner had the door closed when I was greeted and shown to a place to sit. Moments later, I had a menu, and my drink order was taken.
I was under the impression from one of the breakfast items named after him that this may have been an old John Wayne haunt, but it was not the case even though his photos adorn the walls.
Now, this establishment boasts an Eggs Benedict, which is bold for any breakfast serving restaurant, considering a good Hollandaise is difficult for many to prepare. For me, I would normally have ordered the Eggs Benedict, and this would be the pass/fail test for my rating. On this particular occasion, I had a desire for something more mundane, and order 3 eggs over easy, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, and the hash browns. A dish referred to on the menu as the "Rodeo."
My meal was prepared quickly, and from the first bite to the last, I enjoyed my breakfast. The staff came by only once to check on me to see how things were and then left me in peace. The taste and flavors were exactly what I wanted and what the doctor ordered. It was good! My only partial disappointment was that my order did not come with toast, but in all honesty, I was stuffed when finished, so the toast would have been over the top.
There are a number of items on the menu that seem worth trying, but in all honestly, I'm going to go back for the Eggs Benedict. I have to know just how good things really are. At present, I'd say this is an exceptional alternative to Dennys or similar...
Read moreOne of the best Country Fried Steaks that I’ve ever had. Was visiting the area from West LA and had this diner on my list for quite some time. I had heard only great things so I was excited to check it out. Based on my experience, I can say it really is awesome and worth the trip even if you are not from the area. It’s a true down home, local country diner in Santa Ana. They have a giant menu filled with all sorts of American diner classics and I was really happy to see that they have great service as well. Our server was extremely polite, very helpful, and everything that we ordered came out very fast. There is a large free parking lot attached so parking was super easy and I was able to find a space a few feet from the front door. Inside is also fairly small, but in a cozy way. They did not have any outdoor seating from what I saw, but many different types of indoor seating from booth, to table, to counter.
For my first visit, I want to try their Country Fried Steak because I had heard they are famous for it. It was honestly great. The steak was very tender, and not overly fried. Too many places cook it for too long. The breading was also not too thick, so it did not take away from the meaty flavor. It was also a very large sized portion, and the gravy on top was really good, it did not taste like it came from a can.
I would say this is a great diner option and I would definitely put on my list to repeat. I would suggest to anyone in the area or to anyone passing through looking for a great classic...
