I want to start off and say I came here wanting to like this place. It’s a new-ish spot near my home and all the seating definitely makes this a WFH-friendly place.
If you value good quality coffee, this is unfortunately not the spot. My family and I ordered 3 drinks, mine was the Cloud 9 (sub almond milk, regular sugar). This drink tasted like water. I have experienced drinks at other coffee shops being impacted when substituting almond milk; this is true. However, I have hardly ever seen the quality of a drink be impacted to this degree by the substitution of the milk as the Cloud 9 at Maz Cafe. The Maz Latte (regular milk and sugar) was quite good though! However, as a consumer I am un-eased by the variation in quality. I would HIGHLY encourage the owner to consider trying the almond variations of their drinks and adjusting those recipes.
We also ordered their bagels and pizza. The bagels costed $7 and I am highly convinced the buns were purchased at Costco. I genuinely do not care if the bagel even tasted bad as I am not a picky eater. What the bagel represented to me was a lack of creative integrity. Perhaps the buns could have been sourced from a vendor offering a bagel that could not be easily purchased by the average consumer. As a business, I would suggest even considering making a smaller menu of good quality, curated meals and drinks. Being known for 1-3 things is better than being known for nothing.
I will give credit where it’s due and the ambiance is amazing. They have a wonderful space. The staff were also very friendly. There was a mistake with an order and they immediately offered to fix it. This review has nothing to do with a personal experience and genuinely more about the...
Read moreA coffee shop with an adorable atmosphere and sweet coffee that comes close to traditional Mexican flavors, this should be a big hit for a lot of young people in North OC. But as someone who appreciates good coffee with minimal flavor, this wouldn't be somewhere I'd choose to go.
It has good flavors such as Abuelita hot chocolate syrup and similar flavors and their computer to order lets you change how sweet it can be. The ambiance inside is amazing too, with lots of care into making it cute and Instagrammable. They do also offer wifi and outdoor seating.
However, the "coffee" is focused on sweet espresso drinks. They allow their space to be rented out, which due to their ambiance they often are booked. On the weekend, they are often closed to the public early for that reason. They also don't have much variety in food options that pare well with coffee, with pizza bagels being an option on the menu. They also don't have good parking as it is in a residential location with streets parking only.
I wish them nothing but success though and I hope they remain in Santa Ana for...
Read moreThe food is alright and the drinks are mediocre. I cant give this place more than 1-2 stars because the service is disgustingly slow. I have waited 30 minutes for 2 drinks and 2 food items (sandwich and mac n cheese) and kindly asked the employee how much longer it would take. Instead of giving me a time frame of possible 5-15 additional minutes she gave me a pity sob story how she’s the only one working here. I can see with my eyeballs she’s the only one working here and I simply wanted a time estimate of how much longer it would take. Not a pity story implying this place has poor management by not hiring another employee or getting a bigger oven. The food was somehow better than both drinks we got. The mac n cheese and the croissant sandwich was not bad. But will not be coming back due to poor management of simply not hiring another employee or because the employee assumed I was attacking her when I simply wanted to know how much longer I wanted to wait. 30 minutes for bad coffee is insane...
