Great beer selection, but that's about it.
Avoid brunch.
Today I attended brunch and had a poor experience.
I asked for the native son burrito with bacon ( they give you an option of bacon , chorizo or soy rizo ). I had a bite of my friends and there's had thick bacon bits in my bite. So i ordered the same.
I placed my order and my food came out. I bit my burrito like 3-4 times before realizing I haven't had one piece of bacon. I thought I might be on the opposite side of my burrito so I opened it up and lo-and be hold. No bacon. I had to walk up to my waitress because she did did not come back to our table.
She apologized and said I'll take you a side of bacon. By the time by bacon came out my burrito was cold and my group was done with their food.
We had to grab our waitress attention to ask for our check. When I mentioned being comp-t the short male waiter said I already have my burrito and the compt- the bacon. .... You mean the bacon that was included in my burrito ?? Ohhh, I didn't know that's how options work here at Native Sons. You pay for something that is already included in your item .
The quality of service has gone down hill -- quickly. I used to rave about how good this place was and it's diverse selection of beers.
As of today , that changed. Poor customer service. Most, if not all , restaurants would apologize and provide with resolutions immediately. Not here. Just some lukewarm warm bacon to add to your cold burrito. Added the discrepancies between advertised prices on their QR code vs what they charge inside is something the city of Santa Ana should look into.
Granted our economy, places like this , who are owned by non minorities but thrive in a minority low economic neighborhoods. We as residents should reconsider our patronage. You can find similar beers , drinks and better food at a better price, with quality customer service down the street.
Pros : diverse beer/ drinks selection. Cons : lacks customer service , subpar food , subpar remediation/...
Read moreNative Son Alehouse is a new hot spot in Downtown Santa Ana. This is not a brewery but rather a craft beer bar offering 24 different taps to satisfy anyone's palate. They have only been open for a couple months now, but it quickly has become one of my favorite spots to grab a drink with some friends. Native Son is located on the second floor above Taqueria Guadalajara and adjacent from The Playground. I would recommend the parking structure behind the pub or the street parking (if you can find a spot).
I attended the soft opening which a major success. It felt like a Grand Opening because of the people whom were present. My group and I got the pleasure to meet the owner; Jon Sanchez who was present, ensuring everyone was having a good time. The beer bar provides bar, indoor, and patio seating. I highly recommend sitting outside because the view is spectacular. Enjoy your favorite drink overlooking Downtown Santa Ana...love it. There is also a long wooden table, very similar to the Copper Door which is good for large groups.
Native Son also has Happy Hour specials Monday - Friday from 4pm - 7pm. Check it out!
Recently, Native Son has expanded their food menu. I have not experienced the full menu yet but only the two options they had before the expansion; Fried Chicken Sandwich and Brussels Sprout Chips. Both were very good and paired well with the craft beer.
Downtown Santa Ana is definitely reshaping, offering locals & tourists many different businesses to during your visit. Native Son Alehouse is clear winner because of their extensive tap list, food, atmosphere, and overall experience. Love this place and highly recommend to anyone visiting...
Read moreCalled ahead & asked if the have any vegetarian options and they said yes, many. They didn't have anything besides fries and onion rings and those were $5-$6 a piece, which is silly. The menu is pretty pricey and very limited. Once they run out of something, that is it. However, they do have a couple specials and a decent craft beer selection on tap but don't offer flights. They don't do table service but that is no big deal. We took the bigger table inside since we had a big party and the table was a mess from the people that were there before. I took the guy at the counter, who wasn't busy, 15 minutes to come pick it up and he looked confused on how to do it when he finally did. He also went out the side door and came back in & left the door wide open, knowing very well it was cold & windy out. The food was nothing special and not worth the price, 10 of the 11 people who actually ate in our party felt the same way. Substitutions for anything are NOT allowed. My 19 y/o niece ordered her food, which came with a beer and they wouldn't allow her to change her drink and had to pay an additional fee for her soda. The guy at the counter didn't even check her ID and just gave her the beer. She would never have drank it but are you kidding me?...
