My friend and myself have wanted to try this place for years but schedules never allowed it. The stars finally aligned and we got a table to celebrate my birthday which turned out to be one of the best dinners I've ever been treated to.
We were surprised with complementary dishes such as a surprisingly delicious assortment of french fries. You never really think a french fry could be delectable but when you cook them well and you have good seasoning to go with it, there is no substitute.
We were also treated to some amazing Cacio e Pepe with truffle bread on the side which while a very simple dish, packed a punch with flavors that simply made you want to keep digging in. But knowing my steak was the main event, I let most of it go to my friend and her mom who were kind enough to bring me here.
But wait, we are not done! To wash it all down we were given a nice sampling of the Michael Mena champagne which went very well with the steak I ordered and left me feeling warm and fuzzy by the end of the night.
Which of course brings me to my main course, the American Wagyu Rib Cap. Knowing how prized these steaks can be, even if it's an American hybrid, I went with a medium temperature to preserve the tenderness. And boy was it a good decision. The steak was not a steak, it was a slice of heaven that burst with juices and melted in my mouth as I chewed as slow as I could to savor every bit of it. It was difficult to not simply devour the steak and leave all notions of propriety at the door.
At the end of the meal, they brought out what has to be the fanciest version of a s'more I've ever had the chance to try, with "Happy Birthday" scrawled in chocolate drizzle to cap off an amazing night. It was a light fluff of marshmallow with fudge and graham cracker crumble on the side. It isn't a normal menu item but I imagine if you come for your birthday, you will get to see what it's all about.
And last but certainly not least, the staff was very personable and always had our glasses full whether it be champagne or water, we were never wanting for anything. I highly recommend requesting Patrick and Jerome to be your hosts as they really made the night just that much better.
Normally I find staff at high end restaurants to be kind but very formal, here however the staff were very relaxed, very fun to talk to, and if you ever have a chance to come here during a 49er game day, I can almost guarantee you will want to...
Read moreSummary: Bourbon Steak is excellent and deserves serious praise for it’s efforts. It is an nice alternative to some of the more well know steakhouses in the area, such as Alexander’s.
Every staff member I interacted with was pleasant and professional. I felt they were going the extra mile to coordinate my meal and make sure I felt comfortable.
To say the drink menus are extensive would be an understatement. The beer, cocktails, and spirits menu was 19 pages and the wine list was crazy at 35 pages. Bottles of wine ranged in price from $40s to $11,000 ( I saw a rosè for $24). All major regions were represented. The person(s) that put these menus together seriously care about their craft.
The fried artichoke came with burrata and some very good strawberries. A wonderful dish that was surprisingly complex and well thought out. Definitely not your standard artichoke dish. Kudos
I tried both the prime ribeye and skirt steaks. Excellent flavor and cooked exactly how they should be. The fat on the ribeye was extremely well rendered and tasted like salted butter melting in your mouth. I smiled after every bite of the skirt steak. The shishito pepper and asparagus as sides went well with the steaks. The lobster pot pie was tempting, but at $95, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.... maybe next time.
The overall atmosphere was actually very pleasant, and I didn’t find that it was too loud even though I dined on a Friday at 7:30pm.
This place is a really good find and I would recommend it for an incredibly good meal without paying the price you would need to dine at Alexander’s or The Sea. So many good options that you will almost definitely have an interesting meal. Would work well for a date or a company dinner.
It is at the corner of Tasman and Marie DeBartolo Way, a part of Levi’s stadium. I parked right outside the restaurant in a small lot. There is also a parking garage across the...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about Bourbon Pub but for the most part the service is okay and the food is consistent. I've only ever been here with big groups, which this place is great for if you make a reservation ahead of time.
The menu IMO is kind of small, and I came here two weeks in a row and the menu was different. I finally figured it out. They have 3 different "group" menus in addition to their main menu and you get handed one at random. So, the amazing ribeye I had during one week I was here was nowhere to be seen the week after, when I had come again. I'd say the first week I was here was a 4 star experience and the second week was a 3 star one. They were able to accommodate me with allowing me to order the ribeye (which was on a different menu) the 2nd week but told me I couldn't sub in a caesar salad because there was no option of caesar salad anywhere on my "current menu". This menu situation is just kind of ridiculous. It's totally randomized and depending on your luck that day, you could be totally denied from ordering a dish that you consistently order because it's not on the menu you were given (even though someone at a different table could be ordering it).
Other than that being my main gripe, the service is fine and the quality of dishes is good (it's still a Michael Mina restaurant).
The pretzels are pretty delicious, and the nachos are a little different from how they're typically made and prepared. Since this is a sister restaurant to the steakhouse next door, all the cuts of meat are a pretty reliable choice. My favorite is the ribeye, if it's on your menu that day :).
I'll probably keep coming back here but I don't think I'd ever do it on...
