Looking at other reviews, it looks like the rooms may differ so I can only comment on the room that we had: #530. We are fussy travelers & rarely travel because of it. We were at the Hyatt for DesignCon . Room: Walls looked like someone threw up after drinking champagne, really not attractive. Beds: There were 2 beds in our room. They were on the firm side. My husband said he felt sore the next day, though I was fine. One bed had sheets so "crisp" that they crinkled like paper...all...night...long. The other bed had softer sheets. The beds were made up with a bottom sheet (not fitted) and a paper thin down comforter in between 2 sheets. I did not like this arrangement as the top combo only came up to the top of my rib cage. Everything was tightly secured though once you untucked the sides & the folded over stop sheets, it was just a mess. Lighting: The room had plenty of lights, but needed more light, like an overhead bright light. Drapes: our room faced the rising sun & the drapes were heavy, superior light blockers. I was very impressed. Heat/Air : the heating /cooling unit was on a wall next to the windows & did not face the room. This meant that if you were in bed, you weren't getting air blown on you directly, which was a very good design. Also it did not seem overly loud, though we did not have it on during the night.Refrigerator: was in a cupboard next to the desk & drawers. Worked fine (had no freezer area). This was one of the quietest fridges I've ever experienced. We were 1 room from the ice machine & 1 room from the housekeeping closet. Never heard either which surprised me.(but then I slept with earplugs & noisemaker
Read moreWe were glad to not drive there at 7 a.m., but it wasn't special in any way. Almost $200 could buy us a night or even 2 nights in a comparable or better room. The name Hyatt doesn't add value to a room lacking things you'd find in a budget motel or a place like holiday inn or comfort suites.
We attended an all day event and got there late afternoon. We asked for a handicapped room and got one barely different from a regular room. The shower was just a mess . Being barely able to walk, I appreciated that I didn't need help climbing over the side of a bathtub. But the shower flooded the floor... no shower mat, so just a really slippery floor where I placed a towel mat and had to use the shower seat to keep from slipping. Seated, you can't reach the soap or shampoo which is high and behind you...out of sight and reach.
No tiny shower cap and only three bath towels so wrapping your hair is not happening. Regarding other towels, they provided two terry cloth pieces in between the size of a wash cloth and a hand towel. I used part of it as a wash cloth to wash my face and used the other one as a hand towel ..very very tacky and cheap . No we didn't ask housekeeping for anything .we just made do.
The handicapped toilet in our room had only one bar to use for pulling up, and the downstairs bathroom bar was loose from the wall.
The tv casting wouldn't work for me even though my name was included on our room registry receipt. The coffee in room was actually good, but I needed both condiment packs for one cup of coffee.. the powdered cream was labeled as "whitener". No room service menu in any drawer or counter. Only one chair for 2 people and no table except a bedside conventional table with lamp and phone.
No bellman available so we took our own things up, but either some elevators weren't operating or they just needed to have the available bellmen using a freight elevator because we and many other guests were unable to leave our floor to check out next day. Every elevator that stopped on our floor..( five.) was full going down until we finally just rode to the top and back down. Stairs are not an option for wheelchair or even luggage . So bad elevator , bad food choices , maybe I just need to discover the joys of a $32 burger in an open air hotel lobby served by a snooty, robotic, rarely seen staff member. There were, I almost forgot, some vending machines where I almost bought a regular size milky way for $3 ( more if you use a credit card because the vending machine prices are more than you have on you. )
The hotel food was expensive and looked gross. .cheap items at high prices. We go to conventions there every year, and it just gets worse. They used to have a little store that served cupcakes, yogurt, candy, and healthy snacks, but that's now used for fast food available for just a few hours. Then it's completely empty. We went to a nearby restaurant.
This hotel offers no reason to choose them No cookie, no mint, no magazine with local entertainment news, no hair dryer, no wash cloth, nut n honey .
I can get better accomodations and service for less... And...

If you stay here definitely have a car, or pay $40-50 for the simplest of meals - 2 eggs bacon and toast with coffee, buffalo wings and a caesar salad, burger with fries, etc. I've had more upscale experiences in Hampton Inn / Fairfield Inns elsewhere.
The rooms are a mix of contemporary and dated, and are well-worn. The lamps with built-in plugs are from pre-cell phone era - anything other than the small iPhone plug will not fit between the base and the lamp; furniture could use a strip and shellac or something - carpeting is stained and drab. Then there's a huge TV - I guess that was the important part.
I had a few issues with my room - phones didn't work, and after fixing found out the cordless didn't work. The guy that came to fix that told me they didnt make the batteries for that handset anymore, so they replaced the phone, and said to let the battery charge overnight. "New" phone (new in 1986 maybe) had the low battery light blinking and handset died after about a minute on the phone. Used speaker phone after that. Wifi wouldn't work on my laptop, I never got the login screen (on a common 3 year old Macbook Pro) the front desk said it "doesn't always work on laptops but should work on your phone" - eventually got them to have a tech guy call me, and after a few half-hearted attempts and 10 minutes, he did what he should have done from the start and whitelisted my laptop's MAC address so I didnt have to log in.
The next morning I woke to find that I had no hot water. Called for repair again, and had to order room service breakfast so I could wait for them (the above-mentioned $50 bacon, eggs and toast with coffee- $49 actually after tax, service charge, delivery fee and a $5 tip).
My room had a balcony - not much thought put into it, and views were of the Hilton across the street and the stadium parking lot, and some office buildings. But it is nice to be able to sit outside, so it's a plus. Another plus is, if you're at an event in the convention center, it's convenient. For convenience and the balcony, they get a star. But I wouldn't stay here again for that convenience - next time, I'll try the Hilton across the street, and rent a car so I can drive 15-20 mins to Santa Clara...
