please don't come here -- the owner of the truck is a bitter, smug shitbag who i'm astonished hasn't run his business into the ground yet, based on his condescending & insecure personality. i thought at first the incredibly rude service i received was due to some garden-variety racism or sexism, but a cursory search on yelp & elsewhere shows he's actually been horrible to numerous customers of all stripes, since as early as 2011. as they say -- an equal opportunity asshole! đ (that's actually great. the rating for this truck is in the shitter right now, so if his attitude accelerates the truck's demise, all the sweeter đ).
and yes, despite the name implying a mexican cuisine and ownership, the actual originator of the truck is a weird cultural-fetishist white man. with so many trucks run by much kinder and deserving people (especially in the SJ area) you've got options!! an asterisk to say: NONE of the other staff mistreated me other than the owner / white dude who took my order.
i thought about detailing what happened to me just now ... but ... if you just search the word "rude" or "owner" or "ron kent" in yelp, countless reviews have already said what i would've said. one woman's review in 2014 was an eerie word-for-word description of exactly what happened to me. and another customer in 2018 mentioned that he initially wasn't even upset, until the owner began to disrespect him needlessly, "turning a 4 star into a 1 star". i feel vindicated that i was not alone, and i hope by simply redirecting you to see a chorus of complaints from others, i'm a) not crazy or entitled and b) the owner has no intention of ever honestly receiving criticism and changing his behavior.
as for the food itself (yes! i can separate my feelings against the owner and evaluate this as a separate component): this was the 2nd try my boyfriend and i attempted, as our first was very lackluster. we usually give each place multiple tries. unfortunately, the taste did not improve. the meat was oversalted but otherwise completely devoid of flavor; the vegetables bland, mushy, and dirty/unwashed. the ingredients themselves were fresh, but cooked without any talent. basically -- it's fare you can expect at an overpriced, generic cafeteria. i could stomach horrible service if the food was amazing... this is absolutely not the case here. a negative -...
Read moreThis was the first time I've tried the food from this food truck. I ordered the enchiladas and the taste of the enchilada sauce was weird, very different than what I was expecting. But overall, it was okay because I asked for some of their guacamole sauce to put on top, which made the taste a little better (for me at least). But the reason for the 1 star is because of their attitude. They were not very friendly at all -- they didn't smile when taking my order, no thank you, nothing. And when I asked the other lady who gave me my enchiladas, for some guacamole sauce, she looked annoyed and just squeezed some of the sauce on top of the enchiladas, which was fine, but I would have preferred if she put it in a little container. But it was just her attitude that bothered me the most -- no smile, nothing. For me, customer service is important. So if you don't even smile or look happy that you are selling your food, then sorry, that's a big turnoff for me. I won't be patronizing this food truck again,...
Read moreNo customer service No recovery service Their vibe is super off Food is bland and has no flavor Chipotle is the most white washed "Mexican" restaurant and chipotle is way better than this place. I bought two tacos today, each taco is 4.25$ they only put the meat, cilantro, salsa and onions, I got the most disgusting, hard and old tortillas in my tacos, when i asked them to remake them, they gave me so much attitude and besides making me wait, they still made them but this time, the tortilla was SUPER cold and soft as if they gave me the most soft tortillas on purpose. I ate them because what the hell, but they were not tacos anymore, they were more like cold chilaquiles....
