Mandarin Gourmet — Restaurant in Santa Cruz

I usually don’t leave reviews (this is my first one) but my friends and I were looking for a place in Santa Cruz to get some good Chinese food and I’m so glad we came to this place! It’s a convenient location right next to a parking garage so you don’t have to waste time to look for parking and it’s honestly a well kept, clean, family restaurant. The food portions are huge so it’s definitely worth it for sure! I ordered the shrimp fried rice and they definitely did not skimp with the shrimp like a lot of other places would. If you want bomb authentic Chinese food in Santa Cruz this is definitely the place to go! If I hadn’t devoured the teriyaki beef I ordered I would’ve uploaded a picture but overall would definitely come back here if I’m in the area! Don't let it's looks deceive you. Came with a friend on a slow Tuesday evening, the only customers in the building. We were greeted by an old male employee, who we presumed to be a manager. He immediately established a welcoming, familiar, clean, and family business atmosphere.

He served us water and took our order speedily. Our food came out quickly, with big portions for a shockingly affordable price (hard to find in Santa Cruz!) Food was yummy, and clearly made with love and attention. I left with so many leftovers, which I just finished tonight, and whom I shared with another friend. He also gave me and my friend slices of oranges, typical of the loving Asian parent. We felt like family, taken care of by this business.

Very bad customer service. The man behind the counter/employee was extremely rude. The food tastes rotten! Do not eat here. The employee who worked here is extremely abusive. He's also stuck up and has a power trip, he will overcharge you, and ads on tips to be sneaky!

PS. Not only have I had a bad experience eating here, I also have the opportunity to DoorDash and try to pick up an order from this place. However the man does not follow the DoorDash policy! He will ask you to confirm the order without the order being ready. And if you refuse he will gladly kick you out of his restaurant and ask you to leave.
