Walking the ‘mean streets’ of Santa Cruz, we stumbled into this delightful little sushi spot. Our kids loved the wall art and assortment of knickknacks everywhere. It’s quaint, but charming, flooded with personality. The employee that helped us was super friendly, cordial, and helpful. They have an interesting menu filled with a variety of options! The HoChiro Roll was a standout as it was covered in Hot Cheetos dust and Hot Cheetos.

Keep in mind that seating is limited both indoors and outside, so avoid peak times if you want to be seated quickly.

Grok says this:

Opened about four years ago (around 2021), it’s run by a passionate sushi chef named Tavo, who emphasizes artistic expression through his rolls. The restaurant combines a casual dine-in experience with a market-style to-go section, making it versatile for quick grabs or relaxed meals. It’s celebrated for its inclusivity, offering a wide range of gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and non-vegan options—including a standout “vegan fish” that’s silky and flavorful, mimicking real seafood without the raw fish concerns. The vibe is eclectic: think Dragon Ball Z-inspired decor mixed with contemporary hippie aesthetics, creating a fun,...

I have an infinite amount of great things to say about The Buzz Sushi. The quality of ingredients is incredible, it you eat fish it is top notch, if you don’t ever single vegan roll I have had is delectable. As someone with an un-chosen serious allergy (celiac disease) I cannot recommend The Buzz enough. There are so many options, the care and consideration is unmatched, and I have never once had an issue with cross-contamination (celiac dream scenario, am I right). I cannot say this about many other places in Santa Cruz. ADDITIONALLY (I know, crazy there is more) the owners are so sweet, kind, genuine and the prices are fair. There is a sweet familiarity to a small, simple but warm and inviting space with unique cultural touches and homages from the owners that give you that tender, small town Malecón, family bodega, cariño in the air kind of feeling. 10/10 all the...

The buzz is a cute little place quite close to the beach. In fact, our group stuffed our selves with delightful sushi then walked 14 min to the beach! Dining is a little small (for now 😉) so don’t bring your party of 20, but for us 5 it was perfect. We chose The Buzz because members of our group had vegetarian requests and I needed gluten free options. We loved this place so much because all the rolls were delicious and unique. Everyone working there could tell you all the ingredients and even would mix and match the rolls so I could eat any item and still enjoy everything in a gluten free way ♥️ Even when there was a miscommunication on our order it was fixed quickly and they gave us no trouble. It was a wonderful experience dining in. Highly recommend for all my celiac folks, and especially all of us with vegetarian and vegan...

Came to Buzz Sushi on Halloween and I have to say this place is great. I ordered the Santa Cruz and the Philadelphia and both rolls were delicious, I was impressed by how fresh everything tasted. The restaurant itself is unique and feels like a place that you can bring friends or just pop in for a quick lunch. I also had a strawberry mochi and it was incredible. They lay the mochi in what I'm assuming is whipped cream and then top it with some sort of sweet sauce/glaze that is incredible, honestly the best mochi I've had. Great food, great service. Definitely recommend.

Although the location is a bit small, this place delivers! Mellow music is playing in the background, the seating layout is inviting and the menu has a unique selection of vegan, gluten-free and original sushi. I had the Yellowtail w/ green onion, The Twin Salmon Roll and the Missing Piece. Altogether, everything was fresh, on point and delicious! I can't wait to return, most likely with some friends. I appreciate the chef and the server too, they were very helpful.
